Job Description

Summary This is a special and important role for the Trust, and we need someone special to support this unique project. So are you ready for something different, your next challengeWe are working hard to protect Marsden Moor from the devastating effects of moorland fires, and were seeking a Resilient Landscapes Project Officer to lead on effective moorland management and monitoring, and coordinate our response in the event of fire.Therole involves working with community partners, dedicated volunteers and ranger staff to restore Marsdens peatlands, protect them from climate change and enable our moorland to sequester carbon, reduce fire and flood risk and provide a thriving habitat forwildlife.This role is fixed term for 2 years. What its like to work here The role reports into the Countryside Manager and is a key part of a small and dedicated countryside team. Together we look after over 2000 hectares of internationally significant moorland which is home to iconic upland species andhas a key role to play in fighting the effects of climate change. As a small team, we work really closely with our fantastic team of volunteers whos knowledge of the moorland is key to our work. Everyone mucks in to support one another, especially when weare challenged by wildfire events, as such the role does involve some weekend and on-call working. What youll be doing Youll be working closely with partner organisations including Fire & Rescue services, neighbouring landowners, local communities and other key internal and external stakeholders.Working with partners and dedicated colleagues and volunteers, youll implement our management and emergency response plans to improve the resilience of Marsden Moor to the challenges presented by fires and antisocial behaviour. Using monitoring and learningfrom incidents, youll review these emergency plans, ensuring they are up to date in line with best practice. Youll be hands-on at times, as part of our small ranger team including routine weekend and out of hours working. Who were looking for

  • Demonstrable working knowledge of habitat management, ideally within the upland context
  • Ability to deal positively with stressful and dynamic situations and be resilient to challenge
  • Comfortable working in challenging upland environments
  • Experience working with communities and managing stakeholder relationships
  • Understand designations such as SSSI/SPA/SAC and other environmental legislation
  • Great communication skill and experience of presenting to a diverse audience
  • An ability to work with complex information and ability to make clear recommendations for leadership teams.
