Job Description

We are working with The Heads’ Conference (HMC) who have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join their team in Market Harborough. You will join HMC on a full-time, permanent basis, working 35 hours per week. In return, you will receivea competitive salary of £40,000 - £45,000, depending on experience.HMC is the professional association of Heads of many of the world’s leading independent schools. It is the oldest and most prominent association of its kind in the English-speaking world. HMC is a thriving, pro-active association of leading figures in schooleducation. Across the world, the members are an eclectic mix and include the Heads of day and boarding schools, co-educational schools and single sex schools. Such diversity is a key strength of HMC, and members are united by a shared commitment to the principlesof excellence in education, accessibility, and inclusion.The Operations Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of HMCs day-to-day operations, assisting the Director of Finance & Operations across various domains including HR and Recruitment, Office Management, Policy and Process writing,staff training, and sustainability. This role involves leading various projects, managing company assets, and enhancing operational efficiencies.Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee HR and Recruitment processes, including the management of the staff appraisal process and ensuring CPD requirements are met and recorded.
  • Act as the sustainability lead for HMC, representing the organisation on the ISC Sustainability Group.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of policies, procedures, and processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist the Director of Finance & Operations in ensuring the use of software and other tools is optimised and consistent across HMC.
  • Oversee the work of the HMC Staff Forum, focusing on organisational values, collaborative ways of working, and best practice.
  • Manage company assets, ensuring optimal use and upkeep.
  • Project management on new initiatives , working with the Director of Finance & Operations.
  • Deputise for the Director of Finance & Operations as needed, ensuring continuity of leadership.
  • Provide line management to an Operations Assistant and Data Officer, including their development and performance evaluation.
  • Deputising for the Director of Finance and Operations, as and when required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience and knowledge of HR and recruitment processes.
  • Experience in leading and managing support functions and managing and motivating teams to deliver against objectives.
  • Experience of instilling and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and developing and managing change initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; with the ability to communicate with a range of diverse stakeholders using a variety of methods (including report writing and business cases) using tact and discretion as required.
  • Strong analytical, accuracy and attention to detail and organisational skills..
  • Willingness to identify and take on new challenges and adapt to the changing needs of HMC.
  • Excellent ICT capability with ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong commitment to own continuing professional development and to the values and ethos of HMC as shown through behaviours and attitudes.
