Job Description

Our client, a successful and well-established financial services organisation, are currently recruiting for an Assistant Underwriter to handle mortgage applications from start to finish, and to a consistent high quality. The successful candidate will support the Underwriting Team to achieve business results by undertaking smooth, timely and efficient progression of cases, complying with relevant policy and procedures

  • Undertake an initial assessment of the mortgage application identifying key risks in each case
  • Understand the requirements of each case and to ensure all documentation is on file
  • Review file documentation and confirm it meets requirements
  • Carry out research and undertake enhanced due diligence as required on applications, including researching clients, and their employers
  • Own the final sign off for ID and address verification
  • Own the final sign off for Broker and solicitor verification
  • Assist the underwriting team with assessment of affordability
  • Assist the underwriting team with assessment of valuation reports creating relevant conditions for the mortgage offer
  • Assist the underwriting team in preparing referrals for Residential Credit Committee & accurately update Board reports for file
  • Assist the underwriting team, completing tasks as required and referring any areas that fall outside of policy
  • Play a part in achieving the Company target for turnaround times, mortgage offers and completions
  • Develop positive working relationships with all key stakeholders to achieve positive customer outcomes during the mortgage application process
  • Look for process improvements and provide feedback to all relevant teams to ensure continual improvement and ownership
  • To attend Credit Committee, as required
  • Assist with projects as and when required
  • Skills and experience required for the role:Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice or prepared to study and attain within 12 months of appointmentPrevious experience of processing residential and BTL mortgagesFinancial Services backgroundGood communication and customer service skillsConfident and able to work well as part of a teamPrevious customer services experienceMotivated and able to work on own initiativeAccurate and keen attention to detailIT literate with good keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft packagesAble to meet deadlines and work well under pressure Required skills
