Job Description

Contact: Permanent Full -Time Salary: up to £25,000 doeSenior Underwriting Technician: Our Underwriting department are looking to bring on board a dynamic and experienced Underwriting Technician to join our expanding team in Manchester.The Senior Underwriting Technician will be responsible for investigating technical queries (predominantly motor) raised by the Claims department, Police, Brokers and Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) relating to policy cover and specifically regarding potential misrepresentation and fraud. Strong proven experience dealing with technical queries in personal lines is a must as the Senior Underwriting Technician will be working closely with the Police, Brokers, Ombudsman, DVLA and MIB to investigate and analyse technical queries. Therefore strong communication, negotiation and problem solving skills are important to quickly and effectively resolve queries whilst maintaining effective and collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.This is a fantastic opportunity for an Underwriting Technician seeking to move in a senior role with a reputable and expanding insurance company where no two days are the same and where variety in the role is in abundance.Main responsibilities of the Senior Underwriting Technician:

  • Reviewing policy terms and conditions, the imposition of excesses or declinature of business and discussing reasons for change with the Intermediaries.
  • Liaising with accounts department as necessary to resolve queries.
  • Dealing with technical referrals from Claims department on policy wording and cover particularly in resolving disputes on interpretation and or application of policy terms and conditions.
  • Providing advice and technical guidance to Intermediaries on Personal Lines insurance issuesHandle and resolve Police Enquiries including preparation of court statements
  • Enhance and develop broker relationships in order to maximise business opportunities through regular dialogue and telephone contact ensuring that key issues are referred to the Team Manager.

  • A minimum of 5 years previous experience in a general Insurance environment with a strong focus of handling technical queries.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Sound Analytical skills and decision making /reasoning.
  • Ability to be resilient under pressure and in fast paced office environment.Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • CII certificate is desirable however not essential.
