Job Description

Senior Cloud Network EngineerDepartment overview:IHS Markits Technology Team delivers a globally consistent operational model with consolidated toolsets and compliant processes in support of all IHS Markit products. The team is made up of Architecture and Engineering, Operational Support, Project Delivery and Project Management functions supporting over 10,000 users. Support staff are based in 7 major locations (New York, London, Dallas, Amsterdam, Boulder, Singapore and Delhi) which allows Infrastructure to provide follow-the-sun support to our product groups. Infrastructure will be organized on a Global, Regional and Local basis with the appropriate capabilities in each area to meet the business needs and drive the most efficient organisation. Position summaryIHS Markit is seeking an experienced Cloud Network Engineer to join its Cloud Network team. The team is responsible for the architecture, engineering and delivery of IHS Markits Cloud Network capabilities and products along with automation self-service tools for our clients. Duties & accountabilities

  • Responsible for the design and specification of IHS Markits Cloud Network infrastructure to ensure the security, availability and integrity of the companys data communications
  • Performing regular implementations of our AWS platform, transit gateway, VPCs with an ultimate view to automating these regular, repeatable tasks (Python or Terraform)
  • Research and develop solutions, proposals and effort estimations for IHS Markits Cloud environments
  • Producing standards documents for the organisation to refer and adhere to
  • Ensure the smooth transition of new deployments from design into production and minimise interruptions to live services - especially pertinent to our migration to cloud (AWS, VMC)
  • Undertake research and development activities with new technologies to identify and report how these could be used to support business requirements and exploit new business opportunities
  • Analyse current state technology and make cost effective business justifications for moving to new models and introducing new technologies
  • Ensure the integrity of all Cloud Network, thus guaranteeing that they are fit for purpose and comply with the standards necessary to maintain a robust, consistent, efficient and effective technical infrastructure
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for the enterprise Cloud Network infrastructure and occasionally provide third-line support to resolve complex problems where necessary
  • Working within an Agile environment, utilising scrums and sprints to ensure constant delivery of our services to our clients
  • Be highly adaptable as our clients demands are constantly changing, refining of existing designs
    • Education and experience
  • 5-10 years in the networking environment with a broad range of knowledge and the ability to adapt to new and complex environments
  • Enterprise firewall deployments (Palo Alto, Checkpoint)
  • Excellent knowledge of networking standards, protocols, and technologies
  • Working knowledge of scripting be it Python or Terraform - concepts around automation, CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working with a wide range of networking and security platforms
  • Experience in cloud hosting services such as AWS and Azure
  • Experience with AWS VMC an advantage but not required
  • Proven competence in new technology evaluation
  • Highly proficient communication skills
  • Exposure to migrating to off-prem model an advantage but not required

  • Cisco networking and an understanding of OSPF, BGP and MPLS.
  • F5 and AVI load balancers
  • Network monitoring and management tools - Solarwinds, Splunk.
  • VMware NSX.
  • Configuration management tooling - Puppet, Ansible
  • Programming and scripting experience - Python or/and Terraform
