For more information visit www.yourgene-health.com and follow us on twitter @Yourgene_HealthAbout the role:The Senior Automation Scientist is required to to lead the tactical delivery of automation of in vitro diagnostic products and services. You will be an expert in the functional area and can provide automation expertise and technical leadership on development projects. The Senior Automation Specialist will ensure tactical planning is performed effectively and considers problems at a system level. You will support the teams delivery to high quality and in a timely fashion. Automates in vitro diagnostic products and services for use in a range of applications.Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Automation Scientist will provide automation expertise technical leadership on projects, as well as planning tactical delivery in functional area
  • Contribute to overall project planning and reporting as well as leading planning and reporting of defined project automation work-packages
  • Lead and participate in activities requiring cross functional collaboration, including leading complex projects
  • Support the resource planning activities of Team Leaders and Project Leaders
  • Provide expertise into the creation, maintenance and improvement of;,
  • Overall process SOPs
  • Process flows, standardized plans & reports
  • Ensure planning and reporting of studies and work-packages is accurate and detailed
  • Design effective and efficient automation activities involving;,
  • Install, test and validate new automation systems
  • Accurate, efficient and timely documentation
  • Design and optimise automation workflows to ensure they are compatible with test reagents to meet user requirements
  • Establish user friendly interfaces on and between automated instruments
  • Enable data transfer and traceability between automation platforms and LIMS (or similar) systems
  • Data generation, ensuring integrity and organized data management
  • Determining test parameters, such as output specifications
  • Provide accurate, concise and independent data interpretation, factoring in systems-level thinking
  • Meeting regulatory or other requirements
  • Lead troubleshooting activities when technical issues arise
  • Participate in activities outside of own team, such as Innovation, Assay Development, Validation and Design Transfer, where required
  • Train other team members, cross functional colleagues and customers can be trained in the use of laboratory automation equipment and software
  • Ensure own work meets regulatory & quality requirements (including compliance to SOPs, documentation using lab books, study plans, study reports and integrity of data)
  • Ensure own work and that of junior staff is performed in line with company goals
  • Support and provide guidance to junior staff
  • About you:
  • Degree or further degree (or equivalent) in a life science such as molecular biology, biochemistry or genetics
  • Typically 7+ years of relevant automation experience
  • Expertise and experience with liquid handlers, plate readers, automation equipment and scheduling softwares; e.g. PerkinElmer, Beckman, Hamilton, Agilent, Tecan
  • Advanced software programming skills including but not limited to SQL/batch files and VBA for robotic operation and graphical user interface
  • Hands-on experience with DB management implementing automation solutions (preferably PostgreSQL)
  • Continuous integration and test automation experience
  • Working knowledge of GLP, as well as instrument qualification and validation
  • Able to analyse scientific workflows and recommend changes to improve scientific processes
  • Excellent grasp of experimental design and execution and able to lead and train others
  • Able to assimilate knowledge from technically detailed scientific sources
  • Can summarize complex data in written form to effectively communicate plans, progress and ideas with Management, Peers or External Audiences
  • Supervisory experience of junior staff
  • Enthusiasm, drive, thoroughness, diligence and a willingness to take personal responsibility to ensure that projects are successful
  • Excellent organizational skills and enjoys working to tight timelines
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite
