My client, an importer based in the M3 area of Manchester, is looking to recruit an experienced Ocean Import Clerk/Shipping Clerk to join its growing team.Role: Ocean Import Clerk/Shipping ClerkLocation: Manchester (M3)Salary: c£26kIndustry: Seafreight/Ocean freight/Shipping/ImportsWe are looking for someone with experience in:Dealing with import shipments from worldwide locations, predominantly the Far East, Indian Sub-Continent and AsiaA good understanding of Customs clearance proceduresWorking out the correct VAT & Duty taxes on entries to checking Bills of Lading and Freight Forwarder invoices Entering all container’s arrived in to the UK on to the Descartes system which links directly to the CHIEF systemsLiaising with factories, suppliers, forwarders and hauliers to ensure all containers are booked accurately at origin on time and correctly through Supply ChainNegotiating with an extensive list of Freight Forwarding agencies to get the most cost effective deal in terms of cost, port of arrival/departure dates, onward journey and subsequent deliveryMonitoring status and tracking up to 160 twenty foot equivalent per month based on 80 containers coming in to the businessLiasing with the warehouse manager and other business stakeholders to ensure that space is suficient in order to allocate space for storage for incoming containers, ensuring that timescales are met and warehouse location is correct, especially if stock is urgent and in high demandSending regular updates to supply chain and the business once vessels are booked and outlining any delays or issues in transitRequesting booking details from the Merchandisers to arrange deliveries of Direct Containers in to customers.
