Job Description

Health and Safety ManagerLocation: ManchesterSalary: Circa £60k - £70k plus company car (Tesla Model 3) A large national engineering and manufacturing company are now looking for an Health and Safety Manager to join their team.Health and Safety Manager - Job Role:

  • As Health & Safety Manager, you will be required to manage and advise staff on safety, health and welfare matters, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations whilst also promoting a safety culture across the organisation.
  • As the Health & Safety Manager, reporting directly to the Operations Director, your primary responsibility will be to provide expert guidance on all safety, health, and welfare matters.
  • You will work closely with staff at all levels to promote and implement practical and effective methods for maintaining a safe working environment.
Health and Safety Manager - Your key duties and responsibilities will include the following:
  • Implementing practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, to promote health and safety and safe working practices in the workplace.
  • Conducting and organising relevant health and safety training for staff, including first aid and fire safety.
  • Leading the creation of generic risk assessments and, in some cases, specific risk assessments for tasks and activities carried out by employees.
  • Conducting all necessary risk assessments and special assessments for each site, including but not limited to display screen equipment, manual handling, lone working, forklift loading, pregnant workers, and young workers.
  • Arranging specialist assessments, such as fire, legionella, and asbestos, by competent individuals or companies and implementing control measures and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) based on their recommendations.
  • Conducting investigations into accidents and near-miss incidents, recording findings on relevant forms.
  • Advising the Operations Director on all incidents reportable under RIDDOR.
  • Conducting Health and Safety inspections and preparing reports and documents as required.
  • Identifying areas where training and certification are needed to meet legislative standards, Approved Codes of Practice, or HSE (Health and Safety Executive) guidance and arranging necessary training/certification.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in current legislation and implementing relevant changes within the organisation.
  • Immediately reporting any situations to the Directors that, in your professional opinion, require immediate rectification or the cessation of any operation.
Health and Safety Manager - job requirements: The ideal candidate must come from the manufacturing industry as a Health and Safety Manager. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:
  • Hold a NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ or NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety (or Equivalent)
  • CMIOSH or working towards
  • Experience of managing multiple manufacturing sites
  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, legislation and best practices.
  • Strong ability to develop and implement effective Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to advise and train staff at all levels.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to conduct risk assessments and investigations.
  • A proactive approach to staying updated with changes in legislation and industry standards.
  • Hold a full UK Driving License
  • Experience in heavy lifting equipment and / or handling heavy, awkward and oversized goods is essential.
