This is a multi-disciplinary team with over 60 specialists in water science, geomorphology, hydrology, aquatic-ecology, and hydrogeology. We work for clientsfrom across the public and private sectors, including local councils, national highways agencies, UK environment agencies, power/utility/water companies, Homes England, Network Rail, River Trusts as well as private developers and overseas clients. We are involvedin major infrastructure projects, but equally recognize the importance of providing specialist water science services to smaller niche projects and developments.The Water Scientist role will involve working alongside senior staff to assist them with the delivery of a wide range of water science projects across the UK, particularly for large infrastructure developments. Tasks will include carrying out baseline deskstudies, field work (such as water quality or flow monitoring and sediment quality investigations), data processing and analysis, impact assessments and WFD appraisals, reporting and the presentation of data. Potential candidates should have experience offand be able to deliver the following types of work to a high standard:

  • Water / sediment quality and hydrological / hydromorphological baseline studies, surveys, monitoring, field investigations and assessments.
  • EIA and WFD assessments (experience of NSIP is favourable).
  • Nutrient neutrality assessments.
  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design/project teams.
  • Experience engaging with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders.
  • Developing project management skills.
  • Contributing to or drafting technical reports, supporting information, and presentations.
  • Use of GIS or other data management or graphics software.
Minimum RequirementsTo be successful in this role we are looking for applications from professionals who have worked in a similar role. They should:
  • Have experience in water / sediment quality, hydrology and hydromorphology.
  • Have experience undertaking water / sediment / flow monitoring or other field surveys and investigations.
  • Be able to critically interpret and record data methodically, conducts analysis, compare findings to relevant studies and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Have experience of undertaking environmental feasibility studies/appraisals, impact and WFD assessments.
  • Have excellent report writing skills.
  • Be able to use GIS.
  • Be developing project management skills.
  • Have strong communication skills.
  • Be able to work independently under direction of senior staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Be qualified to degree level in relevant subject (e.g. geography, environmental science, chemistry, ecology etc.).
  • Ideally be a member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM, IEMA, BHS etc.).
