Job Description

Job IntroductionRated Good in their most recent CQC report, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for Bolton, Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan. The Trust also provides a wide rangeof specialist mental health and substance misuse services for patients from Greater Manchester and beyond. From the beauty of the surrounding countryside to the heart of the vibrant inner city, Greater Manchester has something for everyone.Main ResponsibilitiesThe main responsibilities of a Mental Health Practitioner is to manage a caseload of people with complex mental health and social care needs, using evidence based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and document these in accordancewith local and national standards and guidance.

  • To conduct psychosocial, risk and career assessments in accordance with operational policy
  • To plan and arrange any subsequent mental health care
  • To ensure that clinical practice within the area of responsibility is consistent with current knowledge and supports safe service provision
  • To negotiate clinical input from other disciplines to ensure the provision of a clinically appropriate and multi-disciplinary approach
  • To develop close working links with other mental health teams and agencies to enable swift and appropriate transfer between services
  • To contribute to the development of time limited individual care plans in consultation with patients, families/carers, community teams, primary care and other appropriate service providers
  • To provide comprehensive written reports as required
  • Maintain and provide activity information as required within stated timescales
  • To act always in such a way as to promote and safeguard the wellbeing and the interest of patients in accordance with professional codes of conduct and local policy and procedure
  • To ensure that professional standards and practice are maintained and that responsibility for practice and decision making is undertaken dependent on the level of experience, knowledge, and grade
The Ideal CandidateMental Health Practitioner skills and qualifications The suitable candidate must have a university qualification in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing as well as holding their professional registration with their relevant registration body.
  • 2 years prior experience of working across a range of community mental health settings and with a range of mental health diagnoses/need.
  • Knowledge of and experience in delivering a range of brief interventions to patients with mental health needs.
  • Be caring and have empathy towards people going through a mental health crisis
Governing Body Candidates suitable for the role: Occupational Therapist registered with HcPC, Social Worker registered Social Worker England, or Registered Mental Health Nurse (NMC) or candidates with Mental Health assessment experience.
