Job Description

New Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) will support a population of more than 470,000 children and young people nationally. The MHSTs who will be based in and near schools and colleges, supporting children and young people. The first cohort of new staff (Education Mental Health Practitioners – EMHPs) who form part of the MHSTs began their training at seven universities nationwide in January 2019 and the next waves of EMHPs start their training in September 2019 and January 2020.Wave 1 saw 25 trailblazer sites providing 59 MHSTs. Kent CYPMHS within NELFT hosted two of these wave 1 MHSTs. Kent Has been awarded a further 2 MHSTs in the Canterbury &Coastal and West Kent CCG area. EMHPs to be recruited will be starting their training at Kings College London in January 2020In Total NELFT will have 4 MHSTs across Kent.The teams will build on the support already in place from school counsellors, nurses, educational psychologists and the voluntary sector to treat those with mild to moderate mental health issues in school and will help children and young people with more severe needs to access the right support and provide a link to the NHS – in Kent this is CYPMHS and in Essex this is EWMHS.Clinical Leadership and supervisionWe are seeking to recruit a Senior Clinician and supervisor band 7 to specifically support the supervision of the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP) within the MHSTs across Kent. This senior Clinician and supervisor would work closely with the MHST clinical Lead and the MHST operational Manager and other clinical colleagues / partner agencies. The Post holder will also be required to undertake the supervisor training working alongside other clinicians and supervisor from other MHST sites .Who are we seekingWe are looking for post holder who are trained supervisors maybe in the areas of CWP or IAPT or senior clinicians with the enthusiasm to work with the MHSTs. Successful applicants may be required to attend future EMHP supervisor training courses dependent on current supervisor skills, qualifications and experience. You will be entitled to annual leave and bank holiday entitlement based on years of NHS services. Due to service needs annual leave will predominately need to be taking within school holiday periods. A maximum of a week can be considered within term time following line management discussion and agreement.Probationary PeriodThis post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).Assessment/Interview infoAt NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.
