Development Designer

DEVELOPMENT DESIGNER RETAIL DESIGN AGENCY LOCATION: Lutterworth SALARY: Circa £40K About

Working closely with some extremely well known brands in the retail industry, producing development drawings from either a simple sketch or from a highly finished visuals.
Working closely with our Creative department seeing designs through from prototypes stage and into production.
Must be willing and able to contribute and assist other team members in order to refine concepts and deliver collaborative solutions to sometimes challenging and time sensitive briefs. Research and incorporate new and ecological and technological developments,and trends within the industry into your development design.
Ability to time manage, and ability to work to tight design deadlines is a must.

Job Role

Take approved visuals/concepts and produce 3D SolidWorks models and relevant manufacturing drawings.
Work closely with team members to design displays that can be manufactured to client expectations.
Liaise closely with colleagues throughout projects to ensure budgets and deadlines are achieved.
Receive project briefings directly from the client when required.
Ensure projects are designed to budget, actively looking for and promoting cost-saving opportunities during design development.
Provide drawings/sketches to assembly/manufacturing problems for estimation purposes. Manage the build and completion of your prototypes, ensuring the unit is presented to the client on time.
Visit factories as needed to verify display construction, specifications and quality. Ensure project documentation adheres to company defined processes - lines, Technical Specification Sheets and Assembly Diagrams.
Work closely with project managers to develop the appropriate combination of design and supplier, ensuring that designs meet the manufacturing capabilities of the supply base.

Skills and Experience

Must have 3-5 Years in a similar role
Conceptual and creative development thinking, and a flair for innovative ideas.
Ability to sketch and evolve ideas on paper, occasionally in front of clients, within briefings and also in meetings.
Truly consider a design’s function whilst maintaining the design aesthetics.
Proficient in SolidWorks is a must.
A keen knowledge of consumer, retailer and brands, and a keen understanding of materials and processes as well as new and emerging tech.
An ability to communicate ideas via presentations, skype calls or by other means where asked.
Be able to self- manage and work independently as well as in a team
