Job Description

To carry out on-site/off-site maintenance, inspections, repairs, installations, retrofits and modification of BRUSH’s range of Transformer, Tapchanger and Switchgear products. Main Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, repair, installation and retrofit of the companies range of Transformer, Tapchanger and Switchgear products, both on site and in our Loughborough and Blackwood factories.
  • Supervise the off-loading and maneuvering into position of large transformers (up to approximately 120 tonnes) and related equipment onto prepared foundations.
  • Strip down, rebuild Transformers, Switchgear, Tapchanger’s/related equipment, fault find, repair, overhaul both on-site and in-works as required.
  • Interpret specifications and technical requirements; prepare method statements and prepare detailed and concise reports for submission to customers.
  • Undergo training if necessary, to ensure that current and future H&S requirements are met at all times.
  • Carry out an on-site risk assessment on every assignment and record details thereof on the special form provided.
  • Provide written reports on completion of each assignment.
  • Accurately record time, attendance and retain VAT receipts for submission with all expense claims.

Person SpecificationQualifications:Required
  • Experience in dealing with customers effectively
  • ONC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Desirable
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven track record in a similar role

  • Able to undertake extensive UK site working, in addition to attending sites both offshore and overseas, often for protracted periods.
  • This is a challenging and important role requiring a high degree of technical competence with a corresponding level of self-sufficiency and resourcefulness, as global time difference often mean that factory support is not immediately available.

Knowledge:Required
  • Qualified through a recognised Craft apprenticeship in fitting and assembly operations on Tapchanger’s or transformers
  • Computer literate with the ability to maintain- accurate records
  • Ability to work with all recognised IT systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and internet/intranet applications
Desirable
  • Product knowledge/experience of competitor’s transformers and associated equipment would be advantageous.
Experience:Required
  • A minimum of four year’s experience required in mechanical/electrical service role.
  • Experience in representing a company at customers’ sites and operating remotely on own initiative whilst observing the requirements set down in the company’s code of Conduct for service/Commissioning Engineers.
  • Able to work with company’s rules and guidance notes on health and safety, including operation of safe systems of work in relation to high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems and work in a heavy industrial environment.
Desirable
  • Transformer/tapchanger fitting and electrical wiring experience.
  • Transformer/tapchanger testing knowledge.

Other
  • Undertake offshore survival training from time to time.
  • Undergo a medical examination from time to time to ascertain and certify physical fitness for offshore and overseas work and in pursuance of drug and alcohol policies.
