Job Description

Job PurposeUnder supervision, to maintain the playing surfaces and amenity landscapes and facilities to the required standard in accordance with Interserve Contractual obligations and end user requirements.Please note this position is Fixed Term until July 2021. Responsibilities

  • Assist Head Groundsman and as directed in undertaking work tasks
  • Undertake routine preparation and maintenance work on a range of sports facilities and surfaces as detailed on work schedules or job tickets. Undertake all preparatory and cultivation work to maintain safe quality playing surfaces.
  • Amenity lawn maintenance and cultivation (Amenity and High Profile Areas
  • Maintenance of Residential gardens and lawns.
  • Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, bed preparation and planting.
  • Undertake weed and moss control around the campus as required and directed.
  • To keep boarders, thoroughfares and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times.
  • Empty litter bins on the campus in accordance with appropriate schedules.
  • The safe The safe use and maintenance of ride on mowers, tractors and grounds maintenance machinery, including hand tools and light machinery and use of cylinder and rotary mowers, strimmers and leaf blowers/collectors.
  • Carry out gritting and snow clearing duties of roads and pavements as requested.
  • Set up and mark out all sports pitches or amenity surfaces in accordance with user requirements and to an acceptable standard.
  • Drive vehicles and operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner as required for grounds maintenance operations.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment used by self and work group are regularly maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements and advise on repair or replacement of faulty equipment.
  • Monitor the use of consumable items and spares and make arrangements for their replenishment.
  • Ensure the safe use, storage, calibration and disposal of pesticides and other similar substances.
  • Promote the Health and Safety of self and others.
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Ensure your work area and grounds maintenance yard is kept clean, tidy and secure at all times.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, colleagues and facility end users.
  • Make recommendations to supervisor regarding improved work systems, labour and machinery utilisation.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety practices in accordance with HSE guidance and legislation.
  • Undertake all work operations in accordance with Interserve QSHE requirements, including CATS, Don’t Walk By and site task based Risk and Method Statements.
  • Ensure company procedures are adhered to regarding procurement and payment for goods and services.
  • To enhance the service delivery to meet the changing needs of the organisation and deliver a first class service that supports the core functions of the college and students.
  • Assist with manual tasks and Undertake any other duties and training that may be required from you.
    • Knowledge Skills & Experience You should have relevant experience in grounds maintenance and will possess one or more of the following qualifications:
  • NVQ/SVQ Level 2 Sports Turf Maintenance,
  • IOG National Technical Certificate,
  • BTEC First Diploma/First Certificate in Horticulture
  • City & Guilds National Certificate in Horticulture.
  • A valid driving licence.
    • Desirable Qualifications and Knowledge:
  • Awareness of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • PA 1, 2a & 6
  • CS30/31
