Job Description

Are you an ambitious, forward-thinking individual, with some experience gained in in the field of designing miniature electro-mechanical assemblies If so, this opportunity located in Long Eaton could be a fantastic career move!An Innovation focused medical device start up, is looking to add a new industrial designer to the team. The company aims to help reduce cost, improve safety, reduce risk, and overall maximise the positive outcome of surgeries that ultimately save and improve lives one device at a time. This position offers a highly competitive salary and hybrid working options. We are looking for a positive self-driven, results oriented and high-quality focused individual to join the company. Your role will include:

  • Ideation of design concepts for a wide range of varied products, to offer innovative solutions to difficult design challenges.
  • Aggressive miniaturisation of complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Efficient prototyping of designs (in-house where possible).
  • Hands-on testing of prototypes to identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • Developing designs from early-stage concepts to fully developed products.
  • Report writing for technical file compilation.
  • Planning and contributing to role-specific R&D planning.
  • Proactively contributing with management on managing and developing intellectual property.
  • Working with corporate partners, as determined by the executive management
Skills and Experience Required:Essential:
  • Hold a first or upper second-class degree in a relevant subject to the role.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience designing miniature electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with hands-on prototyping and testing.
Desirable:
  • Excellent CAD/CAM skills (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Excellent understanding of all factors involved in specifying and designing bearings, gear trains, levers, cams, leadscrews, motors, actuators and sensors.
  • Experience generating design documentation and manufacturing drawings.
  • A good understanding of a wide range of manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrable experience with project planning and time management.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, particularly when communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to self-motivate when working independently; prioritise tasks, and work effectively to manage and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and work with minimum supervision.
  • A basic knowledge of clinical and/or biomedical engineering.
