Job Description

TrusteeWe are seeking to hire up to two trustees and a new Chair of the board at a decisive and dynamic point in history.The charity is a leader in the field of climate change engagement, bridging the gap between research and practice and helping to build a social mandate on climate action.Working with the new, recently appointed CEO, you will join a board whose role will be to inspire and lead, to help the organisation build and develop for the years ahead.Positions: 2 Trustees and 1 Chair of TrusteesLocation: UKTime Commitment: Four Board meetings per year, two held online, two at our Head Office in Oxford. The Chair is expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Executive. The charity does not currently operate a Committee structure, although hopesto develop this in the coming year.Terms of office: The Charitys trustees - including the Chair - will serve for one three year term with eligibility for reappointment. Trustees may serve a maximum term of six years.Salary: The post is unremunerated, although expenses for travel and out of pocket expenses may be claimed.Closing Date: 17:00, Thursday 13th April 2023. If shortlisted, interviews will take place on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st April so we invite you to keep some time free on these days.About the roles: Trustee and Chair of TrusteesAs a Trustee you will be part of a board ensuring the charity fulfils its mission, vision and values. You will provide oversight to the CEO and Executive team to achieve the organisations mission and objectives.As Chair of the board, you will lead the Board of Trustees, chairing meetings, ensuring governance processes work well such that the board is effective, and work closely with the CEO to ensure the organisations strategy is delivered.About YouWe are seeking highly organised, professional individuals with the ability to demonstrate strong leadership and management skills.Youll be the right fit if you have:

  • The ability and vision to lead and represent the organisation, giving a clear sense of strategic direction
  • A strong understanding of the respective roles of the Chair and Chief Executive and the Board and executive
  • The ability to listen to others contributions, challenge in a constructive way and build consensus through persuasive discussion
  • The ability to make balanced and informed decisions
  • Excellent communication skills. Able to read, understand and analyse both written and numerical reports presented to the Board for decision and information and to draw out points for discussion
  • A passion for the mission and values of the organisation
  • A commitment to accountability, openness, transparency and equality of opportunity.
  • Knowledge of charity regulation and law
  • Suitable time commitment for the role
