Job Description

Job Title: Technical Artist / AnimatorJob ID: 81868Location: Home Based/RemoteJob Type: PermanentSalary: £40-50kCompany: An exciting opportunity has come up for a Technical Artist / Animator to help push the boundaries of interactive and immersive character-based story telling within VR, working on an upcoming VR project.You will work remotely, alongside the rest of the team and key stakeholders on a daily basis.The role:As a Technical Animator, you will play a key role in the development and maintenance of the character pipeline and game performance. Working alongside the animators and the Art Technical Director, you will be supporting the engine and design team in facilitating an efficient production flow from Maya into Unity. Your technical skill and understanding will be part of helping craft a believable world where characters come to life. You will be a problem solver and solution finder, with a passion for storytelling and immersive worlds.

  • Proven demonstrable experience in developing pipelines from Maya to Unity
  • Proficient in custom skeletons and rigging
  • Excellent understanding of BendShapes
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of character mesh topology and deformation
  • Proficient in C#, Python and Mel
  • Adept in real-time animation systems
  • Comfortable with self and team critique
  • Have an understanding of costing and deadlines
  • A passion for compelling storytelling is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • You have worked within a similar role previously
  • You have shipped at least one title, ideally VR, as technical artist or animator
  • Have proven examples of either C#, Python or Mel
  • Demonstrable experience of working with both hand animation and motion capture data
  • Have experience of time costing, strategizing and planning
  • Have previous experience with Confluence and Jira, or similar systems
  • Excellent understanding and use of version control
  • Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain animation and art pipelines
  • Provide and maintain detailed clear documentation and communicate effectively to the whole team
  • Create rigs, tools and processes
  • Work and support company core tech systems
  • Working with the Art Director, Art Technical Director and programming team
  • Work alongside the animation team and character team in Maya and Unity to develop solutions and tools
  • Share knowledge, tools and experience across the team and company
