Job descriptionWhere you fit inYou will be a direct report to the Head of Operational Risk Framework and will be a member of the Operational Risk leadership team. It is expected that this team will grow over time to a final state of 3-5 individuals including technical Business Analystsand will work very closely with IT, the Operational Risk Advisory Team and the 1st line community of Business Integration and Assurance Managers. The role and team are expected to be based in London.Whats the roleAs a Team Lead, you will be accountable for leading the implementation of a new Non-Financial (NF) Risk Group Risk & Control (GRC) platform. Whilst tools such as Radar and Metric Stream are available within Trading & Supply (T&S), they are very much intheir infancy.There is a great need for connection of NF risk data and an automated solution with appropriate data design and workflow will support all Framework elements.Additionally,you will coordinate events, reporting and governance work streams which have a particularly close connection to the core systems requirement for the role. Youll bring in your experience in running similar projects in peer institutions andworking knowledge of system capabilities and data structures.Principal Accountabilities:

  • Design and deliver an integrated Non-financial Risk system and associated policies and processes to be used by all LODs across all T&S businesses and geographies
  • Forward the Op Risk events, governance and reporting framework agendas.
  • Own the program of work related to the NF Risk system and have a working knowledge of project management, Systems Analysis & Design / Agile working methods.
  • Build the 2nd line Systems, events and governance team, bringing in external expertise and combining this with individuals who have a deep knowledge of the operational processes which sit within the T&S business
  • Support wider framework initiatives such as Maturity assessment as reqd.
  • Ensure outcomes are delivered cost effectively, with AI, automation, and digitalisation where appropriate, such that they deliver true value to T&S
  • Provide senior level guidance and expertise to the T&S organisation around all topics related to systems, events and governance
What we need from youWe are keen to hear from qualified professionals who have a working knowledge of various Risk System capabilities in peer institutions or in the market.Further requirements are as follows:
  • Must have demonstrable experience of having worked at a large complex peer institution (Investment Manager / Bank, Oil & Gas Major, Independent Commodity Trader) in a Risk Framework team and have direct experience of having built Operational Risk systems.
  • Deep understanding and technical knowledge of non-financial risk management in a complex Trading organisation.
  • Ideally prior experience of physical and financial commodity trading and/or having worked in a regulated trading business.
  • Clear understanding of the 3 Lines of Defence model and segregation of duties for each LOD.
  • Proven ability to work in partnership with the 1st line of defence to deliver pragmatic risk management solutions which are cost effective and relevant for the business.
  • Preference for individuals who have worked in the 2nd line but who have also previously been in 1st line roles, such asDivisional/Business-lineControl Officers or Chief Operating Officers, with practical experience of how these frameworks are used inthe 1st line and how to make them meaningful for the organisation.
  • Technical understanding of the suite of controls which are generally employed to mitigate various types of Operational Risk within a complex trading organisation and ability to articulate what does good look like to the rest of T&S.
  • Sound understanding of current regulatory environment, including consultations for future regulation, and how these impact T&S.
Leadership Requirements for the role:
  • Strategic thinker with a proven ability to articulate a vision and to communicate this vision to key stakeholders.
  • Commercial understanding and good judgement to provide advice, whilst balancing risk and reward.
  • Strong communication skills, confidence to speak up and challenge plus ability to form effective relationships with stakeholders across Commercial, Risk, Compliance and Finance organisations as well as other support functions.
  • Experience in leading and motivating teams, including proven ability to manage and deliver through others, working with people from different cultural backgrounds and in a virtual, global environment.
