Job Description

Context for the role:The post holder will sit within the second line of defense (2LoD) risk function in the Organisational Risk team . This team i s tasked with identifying and managing sustainability (ESG), behavioural and reputational risks arising from process and procedures,behaviours and communication approaches that could impact M&G plc. As well as supporting M&G plc to manage sustainability risks, the team is also an active participant in industry collaborations and initiatives. The Sustainability Risk Climate and Thematic manager will lead the risk management approach at M&G Plc on major sustainability themes with a focus on climate and biodiversity but also covering social and governance matters . This role covers the asset manager,asset owner and plc. Within sustainability there are a number of significant topics, including but not limited to climate change and biodiversity. These topics are complex and nuanced, requiring the development of tools, including climate change scenario analysis, net zero methodologiesand an appropriate approach for other topics such as nature and biodiversity. Reporting to the Head of Sustainability Risk, the Sustainability Risk Climate and Thematic Manager will be a key member of a multi-faceted team working flexibly and collaboratively to deliver M&Gs goals. Key accountabilities for this role:

  • 2LOD lead on climate modelling (TCFD) and net zero approaches
  • Technical review of methodologies and alignment with industry standards
  • Draft and/or review external climate and other thematic risk reporting
  • Lead climate and other thematic policy and strategy review
  • Risk lead on nature & biodiversity and other ESG themes
  • Lead on relevant thematic deep dives
  • Participate in industry collaborations
Key knowledge, skills and experience:• Knowledge
  • Knowledge of sustainability matters in financial services, include experience of working to develop or assess climate scenario models used for TCFD reporting and net zero approaches.
  • Background knowledge of ESG matters across E, S and G including climate change, biodiversity, social matters and governance.
  • Working knowledge of financial services sustainability regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Working knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Knowledge of life & pensions and savings & investment products, markets and competitors
• Skills
  • Strong team player, with proven ability to effectively collaborate within team and wider business, as well as coaching and delegating appropriately
  • Growth mindset, continuously developing self and challenging business to improve.
  • Excellent communicator, written and oral - with proven ability to produce structured documents in Word, PPT and Excel
  • Ability to review control environment around climate change models, covering control design, use of data, methodology and results review.
  • Self-starter, with strong time management skills, ability to deliver under pressure, prioritise to produce results and communicate challenges
• Experience
  • Understanding of the wider business, economic, regulatory and market environment in which M&G plc operates, with experience of sustainability development in financial services
  • Experience of developing or assessing climate change modelling approaches in financial services covering scenario testing and net zero. Experience of nature and biodiversity preferred but not essential.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in regulated financial services environment, understanding importance of clear audit trails and communication of risks, options, decisions and recommendations
