Job Description

Job Title: Server Engineer - Technology - CSC - Counter Terrorism Policing HQSalary: The starting salary is £43,227, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.The salary is broken down as £40,386 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £45,615 Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.Location: BirminghamWant to play your part in keeping the country safe This is your opportunity. We’re looking for a Server Engineer to provide technical support for Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) at the CTPHQ National Customer Services Centre (CSC) just east of Birmingham.You’ll use your skills to keep vital ICT running smoothly so officers can perform their vital role. Join us - and help CTP to protect the UK every day.As a Server Engineer, you’ll provide server, storage and infrastructure technical support for the CTPHQ National Customer Services Centre (CSC). Tackling operational and project tasks, you’ll maintain and develop national CTP IT services.Day to day, you’ll lead on incidents, problems, changes and improvements, visiting other sites if necessary. It’s all about ensuring that national infrastructure is available, secure and supported to best practice standards so officers can carry out CTPoperations.With public safety at stake, this is a crucial role. You’ll therefore need solid experience as a 2nd line server infrastructure engineer in a technically diverse environment. Thanks to this background, you’ll have strong technical skills including a goodgrasp of server, storage and virtualisation technology. We’re also looking for experience of HP and Dell server hardware, an ITIL service environment, and ideally, IT project implementation.Join us, and you’ll be part of a team of engineers covering 7am to 7pm weekdays from the CSC technical ops centre and on call (roughly 1 week in 4). The role is office-based with occasional opportunities to work from home.   • The post holder will be required to do the following:
  • Provide technical support for National infrastructure relating to Business As Usual (BAU) and Projects to ensure objectives are being met in line with CTP priorities.
  • Ensure personal workload is effectively managed, prioritised and issues are escalated to line management as necessary.
  • Ensure Adherence to required polices, standards, controls and best practice.
  • Ensure SLAs for services in the CSC Service portfolio are met.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation to ensure all services are maintained and knowledge is shared.
  • Proactively maintain and update the infrastructure to ensure security and reliability.
  • Proactively monitor environments to help prevent issues arising.
  • Ensure security procedures are followed, to comply with the relevant accreditation, procedures and/or guidance.
Vetting
  • This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingnessto undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required
  • Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event thatpotential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supportedby Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
