Senior Software Engineer - BQL Content Management Platform

Enabling clients to accessBloombergs data and perform custom analytics, the Bloomberg Query Language(BQL) and Analytics platform is at the forefront of innovation for our business. BQL is much more than a highly scalable, low latency analytics platform. The value proposition to clients is providing highly modeled and linked data which is accessible via a standard Query Language interface. To do this, BQL has a robust Metadata (MD) systemthat lets domain product and engineering teams register and provide their data. For this architecture to be fully realized, we need to provide effective tools to manage the metadata and configurations that control the flow of data on the platform. As a memberof our BQL content Management Platform team you would be building front end workflows and toolchains to orchestrate complex content management workflows. The UI/X Platform allows BQL to scale into a platform used across Bloomberg for data and analytics. Firstand foremost, this will involve partnering with our Metadata Management team to build tools that support our MD driven content onboarding process. Focusing on creating a self-service application so Bloombergs data experts and yellow key teams can directlymanage how their data is accessible in BQL. Additionally, as our platform grows and evolves, so do the workflows we support. BQL will need to develop a suite of tools for both internal and external users to better understand how their queries and data workand interact on the BQL platform. From converting legacy workflows to fully utilize the power of the BQL platform to understanding the underlying interactions within the engine itself. These tools will provide vital insight for our data experts and users.This is critical to the growth of the BQL product, ensuring that not only is BQL accessible, but that our data experts and clients can trust the results our platform produces. BQL Content Management Platform is a team of engineers that will work on:

• Creation of a fully featured, highly interactive, and dynamic management platform for BQL Metadata, including - onboarding and updating metadata on the platform - integrating with the BQL Metadata backend to provide immediate feedback on configuration correctness - Creation of automated containerized environments to validate new and updated Metadata - the ability to visualize and introspect the underlying data model
• Query debugging tools for "low touch/no-code" triage, which is much needed by producers and consumers alike
• Partner with our Discovery team and other application teams to create a consistent discovery experience across BQL enabled applications
• Tools that assist our users with migration and optimization of their BQL workflows

We are looking for developers with expert frontend experience in building dynamic, multi-layer workflows. Experience using common frontend languages and frameworks such as Typescript, Javascript, and React. Well trust you to

• Collaboratively design and develop UX workflows for different sets of users, working with our Discovery and Metadata teams as well as stakeholders from product and our data downstreams
• Influence architectural decisions around our centralized metadata management and discovery services, providing input from the perspective of an application owner
• Work with our product to integrate feedback from both internal and external users to refine our UX workflows iteratively
• Collaborate with teams across the Bloomberg ecosystem
• Consult on UX workflows being built using the BQL platform, identifying when common controls and widgets can be shared across BQL related frontends
• Be part of a highly motivated team of software engineers with a strong team culture.
• Think about bigger picture, take calculated risks and come up with innovative ideas

Youll need to have

• Experience with Typescript and/or Javascript
• Advanced expertise in REACT or other open source frontend frameworks
• Experience with UX design, workflow management, and highly available systems
• Experience with visualizing large, highly linked data sets
• Experience leveraging Persistence Frameworks, JSON/RDF and RESTful Services from interactive frontends
• Experience working in fast paced Continuous Delivery projects

Wed love to see

• Experience creating workflows around Solr/Elastic Search, RDF, and/or SPARQL based backends
• Experience working in a Test Driven Development and Agile environment
• Experience with gathering and actioning user feedback on new and updated UXs
