Job Description

Wilberforce (W10), Fulham (SW6) and Langford (SW6) are smaller than average primary schools with welcoming and support staff teams.Youll choose which school you would like as your base, and plan visits at the other two schools as you see fit.Youll report to and be supported by the IT Area Manager. Youll provide IT support and contribute to the effective operation, maintenance and repair of all computers and related resources through the school. This role would suit a 2nd line IT Technician with two+ years of hands on experience and the ability to manage their own workload.You will benefit from an excellent local authority pension, a work schedule which fits around home commitments, training, and the opportunity to build a career in a growing organisation.Important Details:

  • £32,000 plus a £1925 pay increase due to be implemented soon.
  • 37.5 hours Monday to Friday.
  • 08:00-16:00 with some flexibility if requested.
  • All year round.
  • No line management responsibility.

Duties of the IT Technician:
  • Support the IT Area Manager to create monthly IT reports for the three primary schools.
  • Oversee the provision of classroom AV systems to ensure high availability and performance. With the support of the IT Area Manager, develop a strategy for refresh, considering the schools requirements, emerging technologies, and cost.
  • Responsible for meeting SLAs.
  • Implement all procedures relating to security, backup, disaster recovery and acceptable use, as directed by the IT Area Manager.
  • Assist the IT Area Manager in the operation of the service desk.
  • Provide second line support, performing diagnosis procedures on hardware, peripherals and applications and liaising with 3rd parties as required.
  • Support, assist and train staff, students and visitors as required.
  • Reporting on performance against SLAs across the three schools.
  • Support, maintain, develop, and deploy all IT hardware and software resources, subject to exclusions that the Headteacher wishes to make.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate and up-to-date hardware and software asset registers.
  • Test and prove the efficiency of the backup procedures on a scheduled basis.
  • Actively maintain and monitor the anti-virus /anti-malware provision and security of the IT systems.
  • Manage active network components including switches and routers.
  • Manage Wide Area Network links in conjunction with United Learning and third parties.
  • Install additional servers and upgrade the network operating system as required.
  • Maintain internet filtering systems.
  • Manage remote access to IT systems.
  • Support all 3rd party systems and liaise with their support teams.
The Senior IT Technician Must Have/Be:
  • Relevant technical qualifications in Windows Server and Windows Desktop environments.
  • Highly developed diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate well with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Experience in:
      1. Windows Server environments including hypervisor deployments in Hyper-V
      2. Active Directory
      3. Windows Desktop deployments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge MS Office.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A clear understanding of how IT is used in schools.
  • A genuine interest in technology and a strategy for keeping up to date with developments.
  • A commitment to the welfare of children and young people.
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity.
  • High levels of discretion and awareness of data protection.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
An Advantage but not Essential:
  • Evidence of further professional development and training.
  • MCSE or equivalent technical qualifications.
  • Networking qualifications.
  • Experience of working within education.
  • Experience of FITS or ITIL service desk operations.
  • Experience in documenting systems and operations in school environments.
  • Technical experience of Microsoft cloud including Office 365.
