Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for aSenior Development Officerto join our amazing team.Location:Gilwell Park, Chingford, London (with hybrid working)Salary:£42,973 Band G Level 3, Inclusive of Outer London WeightingWoking Hours:35 hours per weekJob Type:Fixed term until June 2024Were Scouts and everyones welcome here - all genders, races and backgrounds. We help them speak up, play their part and shine bright.TheSenior Development Officer Role:As our Senior Development Officer, you willdrive forward the departments continuous development plan to further protect Young People in Scouts and to support and advise the organisations transformational programmes. You will line manageour 2 x development officers and support the delivery of work to improve the volunteer experience, as well as the analysis of safeguarding, welfare and vetting cases that are managed within the Safeguarding Team, and safety incidents managed by the SafetyTeam. Reflection will be critical to ensure options for improvements are identified, with the Safe Scouting development team being critical to ensuring these improvements are then implemented effectively and efficiently.Key responsibilities as our Senior Development Officer:

  • Project manage the involvement of Safe Scouting in the collaboration of other projects making up the wider programmes of work within the organisational strategy
  • Provide advice and guidance to ensure safeguarding is embedded into these pieces of work ensuring they are high quality sector leading
  • Collaborate on the delivery of the Safe Scouting Programme of Work
  • Engage with Scout volunteers, Scout HQ colleagues and external agencies to gain insights to the service delivered; to develop and communicate key updates and to update and improve the service provided
  • Analyse data to identify trends in safeguarding concerns, to inform senior management and Committees, as well as other teams such as learning and development
  • Reflect on learning from casework and incidents to amend existing procedures and processes and improve standards and efficiency
  • Identify opportunities for sharing learning and best practice across the Scouts, including digital opportunities
What we are looking for in our Senior Development Officer:
  • Excellent project/change management skills
  • Comfortable with a fast paced environment
  • The ability to support and manage a team to drive forward changes
  • Strong IT skills including (intermediate Excel), analysing/interpreting data and composing reports and presenting data
  • The ability to manage project work, including managing resources and priorities, coordinating work, motivating others, taking personal responsibility and making recommendations
  • Experience in engaging a wide variety of key stakeholders
  • Experience in developing policy, guidance and/or projects on safeguarding / health & safety matters
