A position has arisen for an SAP / Sybase ASE DBA who has experience supporting multi-server enterprise environments. This person will be a member of the L3 global distributed database service team who provide follow the sun 24x7 firm-wide container-levelsupport for 10,000s of mission critical ASE databases across the production, qa and test environments.Primary Responsibilities:The role will require the successful candidate to participate in all aspects of database administration including but not limited toProviding SAP Sybase ASE and Replication Server technical expertise and consultancy to application development and support teams Outage/incident management from initial troubleshoot/ resolution though to root cause analysis and driving subsequent correctivemeasures* In depth performance and tuning* Handling ticket / alert escalations from the DBA L1 and L2 groups to the L3 team* Project work including migrations, immutable backups, version upgrades, operational acceptance testing for new SAP ASE features / products being engineering by the DBA group.* Scripting, automation and developing self service tools* Defining /reviewing operational best practice and writing standard operational procedure documentation* Participating in the weekend oncall support rota.Skills required:* Strong database administration of SAP Sybase ASE versions up to and including ASE 16 ideally in a Linux environment.* Expertise in Replication Server and administering large scale complex replication topologiesPerformance and tuning:o Ability to use tools such as Sysmon and MDA tables to identity instance level bottlenecks and provide corresponding configuration recommendationso Ability to read and understand query plans, understand optimizer decisions and provide recommendations for SQL / Index tuning.o Strong TSQL language knowledgeo Advanced ASE Optimizer troubleshooting* Intermediate knowledge of Unix /Linux* Intermediate Python/ Perl / Shell or another scripting language and a proven ability to automate DBA tasks* Must be able to work with command line tools* Ability to work in a high-pressure environment on mission critical production databases systems* Excellent communication skills (including strong written and spoken English)* Ability to multi-task* Excellent problem-solving skills* Service focused with ability to build relationships with customers of the DBA groupSkills Desired:* Prior experience of the HVR Change Data Capture replication product is a particular bonus* Exposure to Sybase MSA/ Data Assurance / Workload Manager* Knowledge of another RDBMS product ideally IBM DB2 LUW or Oracle* Basic understanding of Veritas Cluster Server (VCS)Knowledge of ITIL frameworks* Knowledge of ServiceNow
