Job Description

Research Technician - £13.15ph plus Hol Pay - Central London Immediate start to Christmas 2021 initiallyWe are recruiting for an experienced Research Technician to join one of Londons leading Universities. You must be available to start immediately and have prior experience.The post-holder will provide technical, administrative and research support to several groups in the department whilst being involved in managing the laboratory, providing support in performing experimental work and provide media and reagents required forresearch. The role holder will have the appropriate knowledge to be able to set up equipment and run experiments and tests for the applicable research area.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing media, managing demand, processing waste and ordering consumables.
  • Maintenance of common lab space, equipment and rooms.
  • To accurately record, analyse and write up routine data, maintaining a permanent record of the methodologies and details of the experiments.
  • To assist with the daily running of the lab by performing general laboratory duties and assisting researchers with other technical duties as required.
  • To carry out experiments as requested and provide technical support to the research group (e.g. with ordering and collection of reagents).
  • To assist with student supervision and inductions of new lab members.
  • To participate in staff and research meetings as required.
  • Provide administrative support related to the research programme.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Evidence of relevant laboratory experience
  • Experience in media and buffer preparation for biology
  • Basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and genetic techniques
  • Practical experience in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of microbial and cell culture
  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology and genetic techniques
  • Ability to plan, organise and perform routine and experimental work independently with high levels of consistency and accuracy, at high volume
  • Ability and willingness to acquire new skills and designing, establishing and troubleshooting new methods
  • Computer literacy, including experience of a range of software packages
  • Good numerical skills
  • Ability to perform physically demanding routine practical tasks to a consistently high standard
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Good communication skills (both oral and in writing) and ability to present information clearly
  • Ability to analyse routine data and write up results of experiments
  • Ability to maintain research equipment
