Job Description

In response to the increasing awareness of the energy sectors importance, we are working with Energy UK to find a public affairs professional to join a brand-new role in their Strategic Communications directorate.This role as Public Affairs Manager entails developing and executing Energy UKs public affairs strategy. You will have a pivotal role in engaging with government bodies, parliamentarians, civil servants, devolved administrations, and external collaborators.The significance of this role is particularly pronounced in the lead-up to the General Election. Therefore, prior experience in crafting and implementing public affairs strategies, ideally in high-profile contexts, and effectively briefing political stakeholderson critical policy matters, is essential.Key responsibilities:

  • Implement Energy UKs public affairs strategy, bolstering relations with political stakeholders.
  • Proactively assess risks and opportunities, advise senior management, and lead engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate concise briefings for senior management, manage party conference activities, and integrate political advocacy across media.
  • Support member relations and keep them informed of political activities.
  • Assist the Deputy Director for External Affairs in broader engagement initiatives.
Personal Specification:
  • Strong grasp of parliamentary processes and significant experience in political roles, whether in public affairs or political organisations.
  • Track record of executing impactful public affairs campaigns, preferably within regulated industries or infrastructure sectors and bridging industry-government relations.
  • Extensive cross-party political network, including connections with think tanks and political entities.
  • Adaptability in communication style to foster productive relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail in fast-paced settings.
  • Capacity to initiate and manage projects independently while contributing effectively to team efforts.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector is advantageous but not mandatory.
