Job Description

Programme for International Student Assessment - Coder/Marker (PISA) Welsh speakersReference: PISA/MARKER/2022Closing date: 02 December 2022 at midnightBackgroundPearson is the National Centre for PISA 2022, delivering PISA in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on behalf of the DfE and in partnership with Oxford University. PISA is the OECDs Programme for International Student Assessment. Every three years,PISA tests what 15-year-olds are able to do in reading, mathematics and science. PISA is unique because it focuses on the application of skills and knowledge and presents problems in real-world contexts. It is intended to provide a measure of students overallpreparedness for the future, not just their academic achievement. To find out more about the PISA 2021 study, please visit: https://pisa2022.ukPurpose & ResponsibilitiesThe PISA 2022 Main Study is taking place in the Winter of 2022, and we are looking for suitable candidates to carry out the coding of the Mathematics, Science and Reading student responses to the PISA assessments. Responses in PISA are assigned a code ratherthan a mark. Detailed coding guides and training will be provided. All coding and training will take place online and remotely.The roles and responsibilities of a PISA Coder include, but are not limited to:Attending and participating in online coder trainingCoding own allocation of student responses consistently and ensuring overall standards are maintainedDemonstrating the ability to apply the coding guide correctly and to the internationally agreed standard through the coding of quality assurance samples and designated reliability itemsCompleting allocated coding remotely each day and ensuring all deadlines for coding are metAdhering to the key dates and instructions about coding provided by PearsonCompleting all administrative tasks as required and meeting deadlinesProviding feedback on the coding process at the end of coding windowMaintaining confidentiality in relation to all the work carried out for the PISA assessments so the test security is not compromisedCandidate ProfileQualifications and Experience - Maths:Candidates should have an A Level in Maths (at Grade B or higher) and at least a 2:2 Degree in Mathematics, or related subject (such as, but not limited to engineering, business, economics, finance)and/or;Have experience in teaching KS3 or GCSE Mathematics (preferably within the past 3 years)Previous experience of marking external assessments is desirableQualifications and Experience - Reading:Candidates should have an A Level in English Language and/or English Literature (at Grade B or higher) and at least a 2:2 Degree in English, or related Subject (such as, but not exclusive to, Theatre Studies, History, American Studies or Geography)and/or;Have experience in teaching KS3 or GCSE English Language/Literature (preferably within the past 3 years)Previous experience of marking external assessments is desirableQualifications and Experience - Science:Candidates should have at least 2 A Levels in Science (at Grade B or higher) and at least a 2:2 Degree in a Science subject, or related Subject. It is desirable for the candidate to have a Science degree including a significant component of eitherBiology or a biological related subject (eg Environmental Studies) or Physics or a physics related subject (eg Astronomy)although Chemistry related Degrees will also be considered.and/or;Have experience in teaching KS3 or GCSE Science (preferably within the past 3 years)Previous experience of marking external assessments is desirableFurther Skills and QualitiesCandidates must:Be reliable and punctualBe able to give full concentration to complex tasks for extended periodsHave a willingness to accept instructions and work within a pre-existing framework.Have good attention to detailBe able to work well as part of a teamBe able to analyse complex written materialHave an excellent understanding of EnglishBe able to apply high level of mathematical knowledge and reasoningYou will be expected to be available for training and coding between 9:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday, from 12th December 2022 to 3rd February 2023 (with a break from 24th December 2022 to 3rd January 2023).All coding must take place in the UK.Payment will be £120 per day of training and coding completed.Application Information We have a number of opportunities available for teaching professionals to join our growing teams of examiners, moderators and verifiers.
