We have a number of specialist capabilities such as pipelines, process, marine, tunnelling and piling, and we invest heavily in our substantial holding of plant, equipment and facilities.Job description:Job Title: Principal Engineer (Lead Design Engineer)Main Purpose of RoleWe are looking for a Principal Engineer with a HV transmission Substation, Systems or Linear Connections background to lead a project design team providing, safe, practical and economical designs for clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with client specifications and procedures.Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the project design team including design subcontractors
  • Acting as spokesperson and point of contact for design interfaces and inter technology coordination
  • Working with the project design team in the preparation of design programs and in ensuring that design programme is implemented
  • Working with the project design, operations and planning teams to maintain and update the design program throughout the life of the project
  • Ensuring that all design processes required by the contract are being correctly followed
  • Coordinate in house and third party engineers to ensure the validity and compliance of designs and that all health and safety risks have been considered
  • Coordinate the exchange of all applicable design information, between all design disciplines, within the design team
  • Coordinating the review of all elements of in house and third party designs by the appropriate engineers, across all design disciplines, within the team
  • Undertake the duties of Principal Designer Representative on behalf of Murphy as required by the contract
    • Well need you to be able to demonstrate:
  • Experienced in the design and delivery of high voltage transmission system projects, preferably for National Grid
  • Experience of leading a multi discipline design team
  • National Grid TP141/TP137 Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) authorisation in one discipline, desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge and experience of a Principal Contractors duties as Principal Designers under CDM Regulations 2015
  • Experience of undertaking the duties of a Principal Designer Representative and Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (LCDAE) as per National Grid TP137/TP188
  • Commercially aware
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards being chartered
