Job Description

This advert is for a Senior clinical Scientist/Principal Clinical Scientist post (Band 7/8a AfC equivalent) in Biochemical Sciences at St Thomas’ Hospital. This post offers exciting and unique opportunities for individuals to develop their knowledge and experience in a specialist area of Clinical Biochemistry. We are also willing to consider part-time applicants.The Reference Chemistry laboratory includes Immunochemistry (proteins), stone analysis (FT-IR), cholinesterase phenotyping/genotyping, sweat test and Anti-TNF therapeutic drug monitoring service. The Anti-TNF drug monitoring service is the first of its kind in the UK.Working primarily in Reference Chemistry the post holder, together with other laboratory colleagues, will be responsible for the development and delivery of a broad range of complex, specialised diagnostic procedures including the provision of clinical advice, collaborative research and service development in particular personalised medicine. The job holder has a degree of individual responsibility and should be HCPC registered. Comprehensive knowledge and experience of specialised Biochemistry tests is a prerequisite.A little more about Biochemical Sciences:The Biochemical Sciences Department is comprised of a team of 60 Scientists and Support Staff. Our laboratories are split between several rooms across two floors within St Thomas Hospital. Although the department is comprised of four laboratories, the Teams work closely together to ensure the highest quality of patient care.Our Department focuses on not only maintaining excellent standards, but also striving to improve our standards and ways of working, all with the patient in mind; this might include introducing a new piece of cutting edge equipment, streamlining a current process with an innovative IT procedure or bringing sample testing to the patients home as we have recently done in response to the Covid19 Pandemic.Your development and learning: You will have a suite of learning opportunities available through the Scientific Learning and Development Fund and the ViAcademy through which you can receive funding for advanced qualifications.
