Job Description

We have been engaged by a leading asset manager that is looking to hire a Private Debt Portfolio Manager to join their successful London Private Debt team, covering investment opportunities across Continental Europe and the UK with a strong focus on RealEstate. This is a high-calibre and agile team within a growing and very well-respected firm and the client base includes a mix of institutional investors (Insurers, Pension Funds) and HNW individuals. The Private Debt team is not involved in direct lending, instead focusing on proprietary origination. Typical deal sizes range from EUR 10m-20mn and encompass various sectors within real estate, including Student Housing, Care Homes, Senior Living, Logisticsand distressed property across the UK & Continental Europe. They have completed transactions in a wide range of spaces and across a range of geographies (mostly DM Europe) since the team was founded. The ideal candidate will have prior experience covering all aspects of private debt deals, from origination through to execution and even reviewing legal documentation. The team would prefer someone who has worked on smaller deals and gotten involved in allaspects of a deal, from start to finish. An example would be someone that when dealing with a counter-party can negotiate a term sheet, deal with any problems while also knowing their way through the documentation, being comfortable with the boiler-plate lawyerlanguage, and that can recognize the difference in legal documentation from one deal to another. The head of the team is well-respected in the industry and has worked on multi-billion transaction sizes in previous roles, so there would be an excellent mentor to learn from. This is a very exciting and unique opportunity, as the selected candidate would be involved in origination, looking at term sheets, agreeing terms, negotiating business, while also getting to wear a lot of hats. There would also be the opportunity to gain experiencewith a range of transactions across varying geographies and investment structures, while also having direct interaction with the investors in the fund. Our client would consider strong candidates who are working in a similar capability within asset management, banking (sell-side), commercial real estate lending, leveraged loan firms or similar.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage complex private debt transactions in the range of EUR 10-20 million.
  • Engage in proprietary origination, primarily within the family office universe.
  • Negotiate term sheets and handle complex problem-solving during transactions.
  • Provide comprehensive oversight of transaction documentation, understanding the nuances of different deals.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities in various sectors, including real estate, student housing, care homes, senior living, logistics and distressed property across Europe.
  • Foster relationships with large institutional investors, understanding their follow-the-leader approach towards family offices.
  • Develop and implement structured financial solutions in various European markets, including Germany, UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France.
  • Collaborate closely with family offices on cross-border transactions, leveraging their unique position in the financial ecosystem.
  • Contribute to the teams strategic direction and growth, particularly in building a new fund strategy for the upcoming years.
Requirements:
  • 5-10+ years’ experience
  • Proven track record in executing private debt transactions
  • Deep understanding of asset nature involved in transactions
  • Experience with structured finance and familiarity with the dynamics of continental European markets
  • Capable of working in a small, dynamic team, playing a hands-on role in all aspects of transactions - from origination to execution
  • Strong negotiation skills and comfortable dealing with legal documentation
  • Ability to work on cross-border deals, with a particular focus on Continental European & UK markets
