Police SergeantThe Falkland Islands Government (FIG) are looking to appoint a uniformed Sergeant to join its existing team at the Royal Falkland Islands Police.Set in the South Atlantic Ocean, the Falkland Islands benefits from unique wildlife, breathtaking scenery, low crime rates, small population, a varied social calendar, free health care, excellent school provision, and the close proximity of South America as a holiday destination.THE POSTAn exciting opportunity has arisen with the Royal FalklandIslands Police (RFIP) for a positive and dynamic Sergeant, with recent UK, Commonwealth, or Overseas Territories policing experience, to join the team. Each military police officer is sworn in as a Reserve Police Constable and this enables the force to work in close co-operation with the military; to ensurethe highest professional standards of policing are in place, and to ensure that we serve and protect our community to the best of our ability.As Sergeant you can be part of, and lead, a dedicated team, providing a 24/7 emergency service to the Falkland Islandscommunity. Your duties will be many and varied with a range of interesting challenges.Prevention lies at the heart of all we do and you will be called on to deal with incidents and crimes of all types both on land and sea. Regular contact with the communityand other agencies plays a big part in helping maintain our enviable low crime rates. You can contribute to that too, through the thorough investigation and detection of crime.Public protection is also another cornerstone of how we police. By keeping the peace,working with others and supporting and reassuring victims, you can change peoples lives for the better.THE PERSONThe successful candidate will: Be qualified to the rank of Sergeant Hold a current, valid driving licence Have keen observational skills, an eyefor details and a methodical and organised approach to work Be sufficiently physically fit enough to meet the demands of the role Be able to cope effectively with unpleasant and distressing situations Be able to work both on their own initiative and as a memberof a disciplined team Be able to lead, motivate, and develop staff Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal Possess good interpersonal skills Hold a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) Have recent UK, Commonwealth, orOverseas Territories policing experience (military or civilian)THE PACKAGEIn return for this unique opportunity there is a basic salary starting at £31,577 per annum (£38,998 equivalent Inc. 25% gratuity on completion of contract). Starting salary is dependenton previous experience. In addition, the post also attracts an on-call and sergeant allowance, which is in addition to the salary.
