The Pitch Team forms part of the Business Development ("BD") department and the wider Business Servicesfunction. Our purpose, as a BD team, is to support the development of valued client relationships, to champion Slaughter and May and enhance its market standing. We are organised across a number of different teams to achieve this - global client development,pitching, communications, digital, research and insight, content, events and business intelligence and pricing.The Pitch Team plays a crucial role in the firm and works closely with partners, associates and other members of BD and Business Services across the whole pitch lifecycle, from exploring and assessing new opportunities, developing and articulating key winthemes, preparing pitch documents and presentations, through to conducting pitch debriefs and turning feedback into action plans to continuously improve.The Pitch Executive supports the rest of the Pitch Team in delivering these services to the partnership and will be responsible for acting as an ambassador for best practice and in managing pitching infrastructure.The successful candidate will report into one of the Pitch Managers, while working closely with other team members as required.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //The team is looking for an ambitious junior professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. The candidate should have the ability and determinationto produce high quality work, consistent with the firm’s culture of excellence.In the role the executive will, under the guidance of managers, develop their skills in competitive pitch writing, project management, business development and client relationship strategy, client procurement processes and in dealing with senior stakeholders.You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.The key responsibilities of this role are as follows:• Assisting Pitch Managers in the project management and drafting of client proposals.• Assisting Pitch Managers in preparing partners for strategic pitch presentations.• Owning, managing and drafting smaller client proposals and credentials documents.• Maintenance of pitch team infrastructure such as our Pitch Database, CV and case studies libraries, feedback and panels trackers and credentials database.• Maintenance of our client procurement portals.• Management of the team inbox and responding to ad hoc pitching queries.• Production of regular updates to the rest of the firm on our pitch activity.• Production of statistics looking at our pitch trends.• Assisting Pitch Managers to ensure that client industry/sector research, competitor analysis and other relevant information is sought and considered as part of pitch strategy.• Supporting Pitch Managers in contributing to joint proposals with other firms in the UK or overseas.• Reviewing/proofing documents to ensure that our work is of an excellent standard.• Maintaining and updating the Pitch Team’s content library.• Participation in, and contribution to, wider BD team initiatives and priorities.• Contributing to the training and development of our Graduates in our BD Academy Programme.• The executive will have the opportunity to grow and develop their career within the team, and to significantly contribute to the business of the firm.CANDIDATE PROFILE //Essential qualities:• Degree-educated or equivalent industry experience. Experience of pitching desirable.• Ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, confidence to develop strong working relationships with fee earners and members of the BD team.• Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables within a tight timeframe and deliver high quality work.• Previous BD and Marketing experience, most recently at an assistant or executive level in legal or professional services.• Strong written communication skills.• Strong skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.• Good organisational skills and high attention to detail.• Initiative to deliver well-considered solutions.• Interest in developing persuasive writing skills.• Analytical approach to problem solving.• Takes ownership, accountability and pride in their work.• Self-motivated, adopts a can do’ approach and takes pride in work and the firm.• Understanding of how to effectively contribute and add value to a team environment.• Willingness to foster an inclusive team culture.• High level of professionalism and integrity; displays the highest standard of professional ethics.
