Based in London at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, the Philharmonia creates thrilling performances for a global audience. Through its network of residencies, the Orchestra has a national footprint, serving communities across England both in performance and through its extensive outreach and engagement programme. The Philharmonia is a self-governing orchestra; our world-class players own the Orchestra and are at the centre of its creativity.Founded in 1945, in part as a recording orchestra for the nascent home audio market, today the Philharmonia uses the latest digital technology to reach new audiences for symphonic music. With a new CEO and Chair coming on board, and Santtu-Matias Rouvali taking over as Principal Conductor next year, the orchestra is poised to enter a new period of artistic and organisational excellence.The Philharmonia are looking for a dynamic and passionate Finance Director to join the organisation at an exciting period of transition and renewal, both artistically and in terms of governance and management.The new Finance Director will play a pivotal role in the future success of the Orchestra. The Finance Director is accountable for the day to day operational control of the Philharmonia, providing leadership and management both as a member of the SMT and to the Philharmonia’s financial activities and key operational areas. Financial responsibilities include all statutory reporting, management accounting, financial planning, and managing the Orchestra’s Risk Register. It requires a highly-skilled individual who can balance the pragmatic, hands-on elements required to work in a charity of this size (average turnover, £11 million) and the strategic abilities to work closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to help plan for the future with intelligence and adaptability. Elements of this role will require both financial and operational skills and you will be ready to understand all aspects of the business and add value across the organisation.The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant, and will need to demonstrate:
