Job Description

Position: Payroll and Pensions OfficerSalary: £22 per hourDuration: 6-Month Fixed-Term ContractOverview:Join our well established clients team as the Payroll and Pensions Officer. This role involves overseeing and managing payroll operations, ensuring seamless delivery while maintaining compliance with statutory and contractual obligations. As a key expertin payroll and pensions, youll lead the team, act as the point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, and guarantee the accuracy and efficiency of our payroll services.Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day payroll operations, supervising the payroll service and team.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and manage payroll changes.
  • Lead in preparing statutory returns related to payroll and pensions.
  • Calculate and process salary changes, including various payments like SMP, honoraria, and sick pay.
  • Develop and maintain documented procedures for payroll and statutory records.
  • Liaise with Finance for accounting, reconciliation, and resolving data issues.
  • Respond to information requests related to pensions, tax, and financial reports.
  • Provide support for payroll-related queries and manage the Payroll Officers work.
  • Offer expert advice on complex payroll matters and provide project support for organisational changes.
  • Manage documentation archiving and assist with audit requirements.
Requirements:
  • Experience managing a monthly payroll function.
  • Proficiency in Software for People or similar HRIS databases (desirable).
  • Training development and delivery experience.
  • Familiarity with pension schemes, particularly public sector schemes like LGPS or Teachers Pensions.
  • Previous experience in line management or supervision.
  • Ideally worked in an educational or public sector setting (desirable).
  • Knowledge of RTI, PAYE, Auto Enrolment, and General Ledger compliance.
