Job Description

PACS Manager - IMMEDIATE STARTSector: HealthcareLocation: KensingtonType of Role: TemporaryPay Rate: Working Hours and Days: Monday to Friday, full timeDuration: 3 months initiallyJob PurposeReporting to the Directorate Manager for Diagnostics, the post holder is responsible for leading the operational, human resource and service delivery functions for the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Additionally, this individual will act as a lead in diagnostic imaging initiatives both within and external to the diagnostics directorate at the Hospital. The PACS managerial duties will also extend to other sites within London. Receiving general direction from the directorate manager for diagnostics and the clinical director of radiology, the individual is responsible for overseeing and coordinating existing and participation in new PACS and diagnostic imaging initiatives. Responsible for facilitating the integration of new diagnostic imaging equipment in conjunction with senior management, IT department, and administrative lead of radiology and all diagnostic departments within the directorate. To build relationships with key stakeholders, namely consultants and radiologists, to support the delivery of clients strategy.Duties

  • To act as a leader in the area of PACS and supervise and develop the skills and competencies of staff that rotate through the PACS department to support the service.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, IEP requests, and fetching images and other related activities. Works closely with clinical staff, radiographers, consultants and secretaries to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.
  • Investigate, identify, and prepare proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with Radiologists, Radiographers, Superintendents, Radiology Admin Lead and other heads of department (HODS) within as well as external to the diagnostics directorate.
  • Work closely with the Superintendents, relevant diagnostic HODs and Admin Lead in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Review customer and stakeholder feedback regularly. Compile and analyse support data, and recommend procedural and educational changes as appropriate.
  • Work closely with diagnostic quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations.
  • Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to diagnostic imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new imaging endeavours.
  • Oversee and coordinate strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.
  • Responsible for budget planning and monitoring of the operating costs. Works in cooperation with directorate manager to identify present and future needs for equipment purchase and installation.
  • Oversee activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.
  • Interview, hire, induct, and manage PACS administration staff, as required.
  • Prepares reports for administration on all aspects of diagnostic imaging operations as appropriate or directed.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental/hospital meetings. Attend seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.
  • Ensure all department, hospital, and relevant guidelines are met on a daily basis.
  • Perform other functions as required and/or assigned by directorate manager.
  • Devise and manage QA programmes for equipment, and processing as required.
  • Management of PACS/RIS contract (SECTRA) and all relevant equipment maintenance contracts.
  • Integration with IT functions across all relevant projects pertaining to diagnostic imaging, PACS and order communications and results systems.
