Summary Working under the ethos of For Everyone, For Ever our conservation work is a vital part of who we are. We look after some of the biggest, most significant, and oldest collections in Europe, and these need specialist conservators to continue to keep themfor everyone to enjoy.Preventive conservation and the application of science in conservation is a key part of the Trusts work of looking after and presenting historic collections. This role is key for delivery of preventive conservation at National Trust properties and acrossthe whole organisation. What its like to work here As the National ConservatorConservation Science, youll be working as part of the National Conservators team, alongside the Senior National ConservatorConservation Science.This post is based at our Grosvenor Gardens office in London with a hybrid working pattern of time in the office, working from home (if desired) and regular working visits to National Trust properties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and other NationalTrust offices and external meetings. What youll be doing As the National ConservatorConservation Science youll be working to maintain the National Trusts high standards of preventive conservation across properties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and to lead and deliver conservation projects.Youll independently apply the technical specialisms needed to deliver environmental monitoring and control at our properties, especially for house-based teams. Youll lead on delivery of our preventive conservation training programme, provide preventiveconservation advice to property reservicing projects and technical support for environmental monitoring systems, oversee central data collation including analysis and reporting of temperature, relative humidity, light and insect pest data.Youll undertake conservation research to help deliver the Trusts research strategy and present research to internal and external audiences in written papers and at conferences and seminars. Who were looking for Youll have training and experience in preventive conservation for collections care, an understanding of the National Trusts goals and ethos and how vital this role is to the conservation of the Trusts houses and collections.To be considered for this role youll need to demonstrate in your application:Passion for preventive conservation and enthusiasm for developing best practice at the TrustEvidence of relevant scientific understanding of chemistry or physics, or completed courses of scientific conservationEvidence of ability to manage and lead conservation projectsExcellent IT skills, particularly in the use of environmental monitoring software systems, data analysis and presentation using spreadsheets and other software and video conferencing software such as WebexExcellent writing skills, including experience of writing reports and technically detailed emailsPresentation skills, with the ability to understand the audience and tailor your presentation accordinglyThe ability to work in a team, leading projects and working across multiple sitesThe ability to work remotelyShortlisted candidates will be called for interview at the National Trust London office on Monday 12 December 2022.
