Locum Production Editor, Nature Research JournalsFixed Term Contract (Maternity leave cover)LondonClosing date: 6th June 2021This Production Editor role is a fantastic opportunity to work on a highly regarded group of Nature Research Journals. The journals are presented in both print and online formats, providing a variety of aspects to the role. You will be working with highly experienced and creative individuals and will also work with a wider network of Editorial, platform and project management teams, as well as external vendors.As a Production Editor you will be coordinating and managing workflows of print (if applicable) and online scientific/medical journals to agreed deadlines.Responsibilities Quality check editorial supplied content prior to delivery to vendor Coordinate the workflow of accepted content through to agreed publication deadlines using production tracking and content management systems as appropriate Quality check content prior to publication, ensuring content is approved by all stakeholders Identify quality issues, take appropriate action and feedback recurring errors to the relevant teams to support improvement in the quality of content and service provided by vendors Coordinate publication schedules for press/priority content Maintain journal style and provide advice/information to colleagues and vendors on house style Compile issues for online/print/supplement publication Generate run lists and issue data for internal and external stakeholders (if applicable) Suggest workflow improvements Processing and publication of post-publication corrections, alongside reporting and advice on workflows Lead and administrate production meetings with editorial teams (if applicable) Support the launch of new titles. Be an escalation point for newly appointed Production Editors Provide on the job training and support for newly appointed Production Editors and provide feedback and support for the creation of training documents Related admin duties (file curation, meeting administration, archiving, etc.)Experience, Skills and QualificationsEssential: A degree or equivalent Demonstrated ability to achieve weekly/monthly deadlines Planning and organisation skills Ability to prioritise own workload and manage time efficiently Collaboration and communication skills Attention to detail Problem solving skills Flexibility and adaptability Ability to work individually and as part of a team Computer literate with intermediate knowledge of GSuite Broad interest in production and publishingDesirable: Knowledge of production workflows Experience of tracking and content management databases/systems Basic knowledge of xml structure Print and/or web publishing experienceTo apply, please submit a CV and a cover letter outlining your key ambitions in the role, including your salary expectations.
