Job Description

- Job Title: Learning & Development - Lead Designer & Content Architect Salary: £49,940 to £65,649 plus a location allowance of £1,639. You will receive £49,940 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £65,649 will be via incremental progression.Location: Hendon / Marlowe Job Summary As Lead Designer and Content Architect you will lead the teams that develop specific learning pathways and oversee the process of sign-off with the relevant chief officer (or equivalent lead) for the subject area in question.As a senior leader you will provide strategic advice on the ways that L&D can be best designed, delivered and evaluated across the organisation, through the continuing use of the Instructional Design approach to L&D. You will negotiate and then activate thedesign and delivery of new core L&D requirements on behalf of the MPS that results in timely and effective learning for the target audience via learning pathways hosted in the LMS while also ensuring compliance with the national policing curriculum and nationallearning standards frameworks. The successful postholder will have a recognised L&D education or CIPD qualification at Level 5 (or equivalent experience). You will have knowledge of theories and models that underpin effective adult learning, group behaviourand learning culture, the merits of different learning delivery channels and current research and best practice solutions including the latest learning practices, trends and emerging thinking. You will also have extensive knowledge of the police curriculumstructure and of change management methodologies and the principles of project management. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships. Reporting to the Head of Content Development on day-to-daymatters, you will have direct line management responsibility for officers and staff in the Curriculum and Learner pathways sub teams (a combination of 12 staff and officers). You will build effective relationships and regularly liaise with key stakeholdersand licensing bodies such as the College of Policing, to identify, establish and secure acceptable standards of training delivery. Key Result Areas The role holder will act as the content creation project lead with a high degree of autonomy; the role holder will create content design proposals, before making recommendations for internal / externalbuild. The role holder will oversee the final production of legally complex training content, through the entire life cycle of design, build, test, deployment & review. The role holder will determine the most appropriate build solution through detailed understandingof internal capacity & capability versus commercially available solutions. Pivotal to this role will be the development of the teams capabilities (both technical & non-technical) to reduce reliance on externally sourced content developers by embedding a detailedupskill / training plan for staff. The role holder will manage the project end-to-end ensuring LMS system requirements are articulated in the design brief to embed a fully blended learning curriculum into the LMS. Part of the role will be reviewing existingcontent and rebranding / developing existing learning pathways to create consistency across all MPS learning content. Robust oversight & negotiation skills are needed to ensure delivery timescales are met and learning content is built to a high standard. Influencetechnical & non-technical L&D staff by offering advice / guidance & support regarding content creation where necessary. The role holder will lead the integrated Police Officer Operational Content Developers function within the team to embed operationalrelevance & community focus within content development, to ensure all learning content is aligned to core MPS demand / risk, and that the learning intervention translates into meaningful delivery across all MPS operations. Review content to ensure compatibilitywith the LMS architecture focusing on scripting languages, programming languages, database architecture and cryptography. Provide organisational reassurance that training design and delivery is fit-for-purpose through effective liaison with senior internal& external stakeholders / governance forums. This is achieved through strict ownership of the content creation budgets, future workflows and project schedules of both curriculum & peer-2-peer based learning content. The role holder will oversee consistencyin the look and feel via the creation of acceptable standards frameworks. The role holder will lead teams of content testers and pilot initiatives, negotiating with stakeholders from across the MPS to rigorously quality assure and test future learning contentagainst agreed standards. Provide organisational access to design solutions available externally by ensuring technical & non-technical developers are solution driven, whilst maintaining the highest levels of integrity & confidentiality.
