Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity with our client as a Laboratory Technician. Overall Job PurposeThe Laboratory Technician performs assigned scientific experiments according to the analytical plan, within specified timelines to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards ensuring milestones are reached. Provides technical support to the hLab team at clientsites to ensure effective laboratory operation and function whilst adhering to strict procedures and health and safety guidelines.The Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring the delivery of a quality product at all times; ensuring that issues with quality are escalated promptly and that quality is always a prime focus on everything they do.Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform receipt, processing and storage of samples according to an analytical plan, within specified timeframes to GCP standards, ensuring milestones are reached.
  • Produce and maintain required documentation concerning study-specific sample receipt, processing and storage.
  • Perform receipt, processing (if required), storage and transport of subjects samples as specified by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and GCP.
  • Perform molecular, cell culture and assays as required and as specified by SOPs and GCP.
  • Develop laboratory skills as required for assigned projects.
  • Maintain compliance with Good Clinical Practice, all relevant SOPs, to company standards and guidelines.
  • Work as part of a team, maintaining excellent communication between staff at different sites and between divisions.
  • Assist with the storage and tracking of samples.
  • Assist with the production of kits and labelled samples.
  • Responsible for organising own time and resource to an optimal standard with guidance.
  • Operate laboratory/analytical equipment or other instruments considered standard for example (not limited to)
    • Incubators
    • Microbiological safety cabinets
    • Water baths
    • PH meters
    • Balances
    • Pipettes
    • Centrifuges
    • Microscopes
  • Ensure all laboratory housekeeping is maintained for example
    • Empty waste pots and bins
    • Weekly cleaning of equipment
    • Discarding expired reagents
    • Preparing lab coats for laundry
    • Printing of alarm logs
    • Maintaining consumable and freezer Inventories
    • Collection & refilling of liquid nitrogen
    • Receipt & logging of samples, consumables and reagents.
    • Monitoring and reporting of temperature sensitive equipment excursions.
Duties Include
  • Complete all sample processing and assays to generate the highest possible standard of scientific data.
  • Prepare and quality control (QC) raw data to include in reports from scientific experiments.
  • Compliance with GCP, all applicable SOPs and policies.
  • Receipt and logging of samples, reagents and consumables.
  • Preparation of documents for submission to archive.
  • Provide laboratory services such as general housekeeping, maintenance of equipment, stock checking and ordering materials to ensure the laboratory is always stocked, compliant and inspection-ready.
  • Ensure that all reagents and batch records are suitably scanned to the server in a timely manner.
  • Account for time according to project specific requirements and general client guidelines by completing timesheets in a punctual manner.
  • Laboratory technicians have a particular responsibility to ensure that biological (clinical) waste is disposed of in a safe and appropriate manner in line with current guidelines and SOPs.
