Job Description

Signature Recruitment are excited to present an excellent opportunity to join our client, a leading London University, as a Lab Technician on a full time, temporary basis! The role will be based in the Department of Chemistry and will be focused on massspectrometry.The successful candidate will provide expert support in the operation of LC-MS mass spectrometry, and will need to forge relationships with colleagues across the School, Faculty and within the Department, in order to contribute to the process developmentand to ensure best practice. If you have a background in chemistry or biochemistry and have excellent communication skills, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you!Lab Technician (Mass Spectrometry) Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with all relevant members of the Departments academic, professional, and technical services teams
  • Proactively managing and developing the Mass Spectrometry submission services provided for research scientists
  • Researching, implementing, and applying new methods and experimental protocols to the benefit of facility and service users
  • Providing a problem-solving service to researchers involving data collection, interpretation, and reporting
  • Providing training, advice and guidance to research students and staff in the use of Waters UPLC- Xevo G2-XS Q-ToF, and techniques or software appropriate to synthetic chemistry and biochemistry
  • Contributing directly to the research activities of the department through collaboration across a range of research projects
  • Managing the upkeep and development of Waters UPLC- Xevo G2-XS Q-ToF including software management, system calibrations, troubleshooting and liaising with system engineers as appropriate
  • Developing and maintaining the user guidance notes and instruction manuals
  • Preparing risk assessments for chemical laboratory environments, including CoSHH
  • Maintaining records of instrument repairs, upgrades, and calibrations
Lab Technician (Mass Spectrometry) Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Background in chemistry, biochemistry, or related subject
  • Hands-on experience in operating LC-MS equipment
  • Experience of working in a research environment and contributing effectively to the work of chemistry research groups in an educational environment
  • Fault diagnosis and repair skills, manual skills for dismantling and cleaning ion sources, removal, and replacement of faulty parts
  • Experience of operating equipment with Waters MassLynx and/or UNIFI.
  • Experience of running samples by LC-MS/MS and Waters UPLC- Xevo G2-XS Q-ToF
