Job Description

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB To address the needs of students in KS5 who need help to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside the school, in order to achieve their full potential. To work with a range of students in KS5 especially those atrisk of underachievement, supporting them to achieve within the curriculum and providing additional support outside of the classroom. To establish a culture of effective study at KS5 through leading, managing and developing the KS5 Learning Hub To work witha range of students by delivering workshops to support achievement, the development of academic literacy and progress at KS5 To target, help and support as part of a co-ordinated response by the school and other agencies, students who may have a range of issuesand bring about a positive sustainable change with individual students and the school community as a whole. To engage with parents as required in support of students progress To be the lead professional in coordinating the establishment of a range of learningmentors [both QM and others] to provide precise help, support and targeted interventions. To coordinate the work of additional mentors ensuring that targeted support is provided and that the work of additional mentors is tracked and monitored for impact Toprovide an effective presence in Aspire To be a proactive member of the CFGS6 Leadership Team and support in the running of key events throughout the yearMain Duties and Responsibilities To develop a range of intervention strategies and support programmesto support underachieving students in KS5. To work in partnership with others in drawing up and implementing an action plan for each student who needs mentor support. By investigating information, analysing patterns and trends in achievement, contribute toand participate in, the comprehensive assessment of student progress, in conjunction with the teaching and other support staff, identify students who demonstrate: Significant and consistent underachievement Poor attendance and / or punctuality Low engagementcompared to peers Difficulty in concentrating and being focused Confidence or self-esteem issues Other barriers to learning or progress To develop 1:1 mentoring programmes with students who are underperforming in their subjects, aimed at achieving the goalsdefined in an individual action plan. Implementing strategies and supporting students in self-esteem and confidence building activities. Drawing up and agreeing action plans with students including setting short / long term targets. To share intervention planswith appropriate colleagues and external agencies. To secure positive family support and involvement by maintaining regular contact with families / carers of students receiving support (this is at the discretion of the line manager) to keep them informed ofprogress. To develop knowledge and appreciation of the range of programme, activities, courses, opportunities and career pathways, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for identified students. To support the CFGS6team during the UCAS process by working closely with identified students to complete their applications. To provide support to students applying for Oxbridge and Medical/ Dentistry programmes by organising support from external providers To work closely withschool staff and external agencies, seeking to meet the needs of individual students and remove those barriers to learning and the attitudes that inhibit their progress at school and create barriers in their learning. To contribute to the maintenance of recordsand information systems, on progress, attendance, conduct and other related issues, both computerised and manual, with due regards for data protection ad confidentiality. To contribute to child welfare and protection, keep up to date with latest proceduresand regulations and ensure attendance at appropriate INSET training, meetings, etc. Work co-operatively with the schools support teams and provide assistance as necessary to all parents, students, staff, Governors and other relevant stakeholders. Be awareof and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Promote the schools policies on teaching and learning and demonstrate a commitment to providing a caring and stimulatingenvironment and improving standards for all pupils within the school. To provide Oxbridge support in the application process, arranging additional tuition for entrance exams, arranging interview practice and UCAS personal statement support. Undertake any additionalduties as required by the Director of CFGS6, SLT or by the Headteacher, commensurate with the post.Training & Development:Full training will be given to ensure the Academic Learning Mentor is up to date with all relevant information and standards required.PLEASENOTE: As the post holder you will be a member of the Support Staff team and expected to support colleagues as necessary. Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Headteacher in agreement with the postholder.
