Job Description

The Controller Transformation team, in partnership with Global Functions Technology, selected Oracle Cloud as the technology platform, after a rigorous technical and functional assessment of Citis current ledger platforms against leading industry solutions.The new platform provides enhanced technical capability and supports our finance transformation strategy and realization of our Target Operating Model. The program has established a Citi-wide governance and cross-functional team including Finance, Shared Services, Risk, Business and Technology partners. The scope of the program includes The Financial Books & Records (FB&R) Transformation Initiative has been established under the wider Citi Finance Transformation and comprises three pillars - Accounting, Ledgers and Close, and associated global platforms, processes, and governance. The programincludes standardizing and reducing risk across current FB&R processes and establishing the next iteration of ledger strategy to adopt and implement global standard SaaS/Cloud based accounting and ledger platforms (the "strategic ledger"). The outcome willbe a robust global process, governance, and controls to ensure consistent and materially accurate, complete, and timely ledger data and results.   • Centralizing and standardizing accounting into global accounting hubs and sub-ledgers
  • Implementing a standard sub ledger and general ledger for the firm
  • Replacing Citis current Operating and Reporting ledgers, including those embedded in bank-in-a-box platforms such as Flexcube
  • Automating and streamlining accounting and ledger processes and controls
  • Addressing source data quality issues impacting ledgers in partnership with enterprise wide data priorities
  • Aligning contractual and instrument level balances and positions with financial balances
  • The IT Project Group Manager will be responsible for a key Accounting workstream in the Finance transformation , ensuring Finance adopt and adhere to the internal Citi Accounting Standards . The successful candidate will lead and direct a team of professionals and partner across the Finance technology team. A comprehensive understandingof multiple areas within the Finance function is required and how they interact in order to achieve the objectives of the function . Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions . Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communicationskills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function.Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.Responsibilities:
  • Development of the Finance Accounting workstream to support the overall Finance Transformation
  • Provides IT strategic direction for projects managed
  • Impacts the IT project leadership function by strategic influence and by exercising control over resources, budget management and planning; accountable for end results
  • Partnering with business and technology leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders to capture and define and implement requirements for the Finance Data initiatives
  • Ongoing stakeholder management of all key stakeholders
  • Responsible for the definition and implementation of technology components required in the Finance Transformation
  • Defines the IT project plan and manages the project governance including status reports, and risk and issues maintenance
  • Sets guidelines for appropriate staffing requirements to meet operational needs.
  • Builds a successful team and evaluates their performance and makes decisions on pay increases, hiring, terminations and other personnel actions
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of concepts and procedures within own area and basic knowledge of other areas to resolve issues that have impact beyond own area
  • Ensures essential procedures are followed and contributes to defining standards
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of how IT project leadership integrates within the overall technology function to achieve objectives; requires a good understanding of the industry.
  • Provides evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual information in complicated, unique and dynamic situations; draws on diverse range of internal and external sources.
  • Influences and negotiates with senior leaders (across functions); may communicate with external parties.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firms reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adheringto Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountabilitywith those who fail to maintain these standards.
This is a high-profile role within Citis Finance transformation, with a global scope, ideal candidates would have exposure to sub-ledger and accounting processes. Experience should be gained through considerable experience in a senior Controller, Finance Transformationor technology role at Citi or a similar institution. The role holder will be expected to provide both strategic and operational thought leadership over change management processes with the ability to lead and influence a wide number of stakeholders, virtualand matrix teams at the SVP level.
