Amazon has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced VAT Manager to work within the International Indirect Tax Controllership team. This is on current and future VAT strategy and projects predominantly in the Consumer Business. The International Indirect Tax Controllership team works with all Amazon businesses, as well as Indirect Tax Planning, Technology and Indirect Tax Compliance to define, monitor and evaluate controls that mitigate risk in all aspects of the indirect tax complianceprocesses. We are adding a Senior Manager with indirect tax experience to lead the controllership activities within the Consumer Business to work on multi-geo projects and reduce risk introduced by 3P partners.This role will drive and shape a number of VAT regulatory and projects across the Amazon consumer business, collaborating with all teams to shape Amazons response to drive enhanced risk management strategy and best practice. It will encompass a range of highprofile projects and exposure to senior stakeholders.Alternate locations include: New York; Arlington, Virginia; Manchester; Bratislava, Sao Paulo, Dubai, BangaloreKey job responsibilitiesThe Senior VAT Manager will be responsible for:- Developing a deep understanding of the VAT risk challenges created by existing VAT rules and new VAT regulatory developments as well as business programs and initiatives.- Working with the VAT Planning team, developing strategic risk management programs for new VAT regulatory developments ensuring business remains compliant, distilling the implications of those risks for a range of internal stakeholders.- Reporting to senior leadership on VAT risk management, business problem statements and our strategies to mitigate those.- Creating a reusable roadmap of resources to ensure consistent application of Amazons strategies and positions.- Working with external stakeholders, such as peers, tax technical industry groups and advisors.A successful applicant will be a :- A team player with excellent English written and verbal communication skills with a “can-do” attitude.- Ability to initiate and implement change, organized with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.- Capacity to quickly understand and digest complex business arrangements and project manage multiple business initiatives with an entrepreneurial spirit.A day in the lifeA typical day will be spent connecting with key internal stakeholders and customers, such as tax, finance and business partners, on international VAT regulatory developments and business programs such as cross-border B2B supply chain; and managing associatedVAT risks. You will also work to find innovative solutions.About the teamThis role will be part of the Amazon International Indirect Tax team consisting of 20+ members. We are a highly specialized and high impact team, working on the most material VAT regulatory issues and related business challenges.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:London, GBRBASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 10 to 15 years VAT experience in a large accounting or consulting practice, law firm, or in-house at a blue-chip commercial organization. - International VAT regime experience, especially regarding B2B supply chain and risk management in EMEA. - Excellent written and spoken English.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Recognized professional tax qualification (CIOT/ADIT or equivalent), or relevant law degree.- Ability to operate effectively in a team environment and work independently with limited general supervision, effectively prioritizing competing demands in a fast-paced environment.- Deal with ambiguity and manage changing priorities.- Persuasively communicate complex and technical concepts and issues to internal and external stakeholders, in writing and verbally.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
