Job Description

Want to work for a rapidly growing, prestigious organisation in a role with international travel Are you looking for an exciting programmes-focused role within the international development sector Keen to be part of an ambitious organisation that offers excellent employee cultureIf yes, then this could be your next role!My client is a London based charity who is looking for an International Programme Accountant to join their dynamic team on a permanent basis. With excellent opportunities to grow and develop, this is the perfect role for a motivated and ambitious finance professional who is looking to consolidate their donor reporting experience whilst working for a well-known international organisation that has recently been through a period of change.The main responsibilities of this International Programme Accountant role are as follows:

  • Take the lead on the financial management and compliance of all grants under your area of responsibility, reporting on all financial matters to specific major donors, including analysis of project expenditure against budgets.
  • Business partner with the international finance teams, challenging attitudes, updating budgets according to programme changes and dealing with queries as required.
  • Undertake international travel to various locations to develop and manage relationships with stakeholders on programme-specific matters and ensure compliance with donor contract terms.
  • Provide invaluable support to the in-country teams right from the programme bid development stage, scoping programmes to put together budgets to submit to the donors.
  • Full responsibility for ensuring that all grants within your remit are tracked and reflected within the accounting system, including preparing grant reconciliations.
  • Mentor a small team of Programme Finance Officers, including workflow management, checking the accuracy of their work and giving them the opportunity to grow and develop on the job.
  • Play a leading role in the annual donor audits and deputise for the line manager as required.
  • The successful candidate will have:
  • Reached the Finalist level of their CCAB qualification.
  • Proven experience of reporting to major donors (e.g. DFID, USAID, ECHO, UN etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a bubbly personality and the drive and enthusiasm to learn on the job.
  • Previous experience working within the international charity sector.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of restricted funds.
  • Ideally, experience managing a small team. However, candidates without this are still strongly encouraged to apply.
