Income and Royalties Accountant

Job Description

We are looking for an Income and Royalties Accountant to join a leading London based Theatre company. This is a key role for the organisation, responsible for the timely and accurate collection, processing and reporting of income. This role will provide a critical function in analysing and explaining key movements and variances in subsidiary income grossmargin variances and will support the Finance Manager with royalty accounting.This role is responsible for paying out royalties in relation to licenses and productions, and dealing with all related queries. Your main duties will be:Subsidiary Income & Gross Margin management

• Maintain a detailed income calendar for all subsidiary income receipts (including Records, Film, Music Publishing and Other income) timing of royalties processing and pay-throughs.
• Liaise with global partners to ensure that royalties are received on a timely basis and maintain credit control schedule ensuring all royalty income invoiced and received on time.
• Prepare income variance analysis to be shared with management in a timely manner to communicate and explain material movements in income versus budget, prior year and forecast and to identify key movements for further analysis.
• Ensure Records, Film and Music Publishing income and gross margin are accounted correctly.
• Review inbound royalty reporting for accuracy prior to entry onto royalty system to ensure reflects underlying contracts.
• Continue to develop a streamlined process for Stock & Amateur reporting Input royalty statements for Stock and Amateur into Music Maestro royalty system on a monthly basis and review pay-throughs
• Reconciliation of all income and gross margin with the Management Accountant
• Prepare and send out royalty statements quarterly and 6 monthly for Stock & Amateur
• Ensure all revenue is recorded accurately in the royalty system, with the required back-up loaded onto the system
• Process quarterly payment runs including BACS & international payments
• Process pay-throughs for invoices manually raised by the Stock & Amateur team

Stock & Amateur income processing & royalty pay-throughs Production income processing & royalty pay-throughs

• Support the Finance Manager with liaison with Financial Planning & Analysis and Production team and other key business and finance leads to ensure that all revenue is captured correctly.
• Ensure all royalties pay-outs are accurate and on a timely basis.
• Ensure all advances, fees and profit shares are invoiced and received on time
• Point of contact for questions from royalty participants, responding to queries in a timely and professional manner
• Ensure a full and comprehensive audit trail of back-up is maintained of each pay-through
• Liaise with 3rd party merchandisers and legal to ensure accurate processing of income and pay-throughs
• Ensure all royalties pay-outs are accurate and on a timely basis.
• Produce statements, self-billing invoices and remittances for all royalty holders
• Point of contact for questions from royalty participants, responding to queries in a timely and professional manner
• Ensure a full and comprehensive audit trail of back-up is maintained of each pay-through

Merchandise income processing & royalty pay-throughs Management Reporting

• Prepare regular management information on key areas of business, with commentary highlighting any issues, exceptionals and/or trends
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting with analysis of income and gross margin history and trends
• Work with the Financial Controller and Director, FP&A on reporting for Board pack and other scheduled finance reviews

Project work

• Maintain up to date process notes for royalty systems including Music Maestro, Onbase and for any ongoing productions, licences and miscellaneous income regarding royalty payments
• Other ad hoc duties as required

RequirementsEssential knowledge, skills and abilities

• Professional part of fully finance qualification is essential e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA

• Excellent communications skills and experience of dealing with senior individuals
• Ability to present financial information to non-finance professionals
• Previous experience of management information/analysis would be preferred

Desirable knowledge, skills and abilities

• Knowledge of Sun accounting system preferred
• Knowledge of royalty systems
• Ability to communicate financial information to non-finance professionals using data visualisation tools, written commentary and analysis
• An interest in the theatre and the arts and/or previous work experience in an arts or entertainment environment

Benefits£30,000-£35,000 depending on experience.
