Head of EconometricsLondon, Edinburgh, Cardiff and/or Belfast£CompetitiveTeam OverviewEconometrics is central to Ofcom’s Economics Group’s work. We use data from a wide range of sources to understand the dynamics of the sectors we regulate and to provide key insights to inform policy decisions. To ensure that this analysis is soundly based and at the cutting edge of the field, the Economics Group has created a new Head of Econometrics role.Requirements of the Role- Have a strong track record in leading applied econometrics analysis and delivering econometrics projects in consulting, the public sector or academia- Be Ofcom’s internal lead expert on econometrics analysis. Lead econometrics projects and provide guidance and review of econometrics undertaken by other Ofcom Economists- Be an enthusiast for the value that econometrics analysis can provide to Ofcom. Promote the use of econometrics across Ofcom, including in projects or policy areas where econometrics has not previously featured- Build Ofcom’s capacity for econometrics analysis, through development of Ofcom Economists, including coaching junior colleagues with an interest in the area and liaison with external academic experts- Ensure that the Economics Group is aware of relevant developments in the academic literature and seek opportunities to apply the latest techniques where appropriate- Strong project and people management skills, ensuring timely delivery and providing appropriate support to colleagues working on econometrics projects. Identify issues and projects where econometric analysis could be valuable- Be able to explain the intuitions and outputs to Economists who have not specialised in econometrics and in non-technical terms, making applied econometrics work accessible to all. Explain Ofcom’s econometrics findings to external audiences- Build robust quality assurance into all applied econometrics work, identifying and mitigating any potential limitations- Collaborate effectively with colleagues from other disciplines (e.g. policy, spectrum, data science) where appropriateQualification Requirement- Have an MSc or PhD with a focus on applied econometricsFurther InformationDiversity and InclusionOfcom is a forward-thinking, inclusive employer and recognises the value of diversity to truly "make communications work for everyone".
