Job Description

Allen Lane are working with a well-known membership body to recruit to a Head of Digital Learning vacancy on a permanent basis. As Head of Digital Learning, the post holder will oversee and lead the development and implementation of digital products, learning and assessment tools, and platforms for members, customers and students, ensuring timely, efficient and high-quality delivery.You will act as the point of expertise on digital learning trends, technologies and capabilities as the most senior digital technology developer and advise the organisation accordingly. You will also devise the organisation’s strategy for digital learning in consultation with key stakeholders.KEY TASKS:

  • Lead and deliver the organisation’s Digital Learning function driving the transition from traditional learning and development delivery (such as face to face learning) to a digitally enabled blended learning offer, including e-learning and Continuous Professional Development
  • Lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s portfolio of digital learning, working with the business (Policy and Membership: PFM: Comms, Content & Events; Qualifications and membership, LTraining Services and Advisory) to scope and plan the pipeline for content digitisation aligned to customer and market need
  • Act as the organisation’s most senior voice on digital learning, able to talk at both a strategic/commercial, and detailed technical level, provide expert advice and challenge on digital learning trends and innovation to stakeholders
  • Future proof learning materials developed, engaging closely with key commissioning stakeholders to understand outcomes expected and how the learning experience can support and complement their achievement
  • Act as a learning/instructional developer as required to meet workload, contributing to the organisation’s products and maintaining familiarity of our projects and codebases; designing instructional content for deliverables and work with SMEs to develop; maintaining a strong technical knowledge of learning technology (e.g. TinCan, xAPI, SCORM) and methodologies (e.g. SAM, ADDIE, Agile)
  • Manage, lead, mentor and develop the digital learning team, working with each to enhance their skills and increase their technical abilities, creating a high-performance team culture by setting standards in learning design, development, and other aspects of instructional design
  • Advise on the selection of systems and platforms, suppliers and oversee contract management of outsourced work
  • Deliver against the organisation’s business plan and objectives and contribute to the future planning of this, managing delivery within a matrix environment to achieve this
  • Own and manage the budget for digital development within the organisation
  • Work collaboratively with senior colleagues to deliver an effective matrix style management arrangement between L&M and colleagues across the organisation
  • In order to be effective in post, applicants must demonstrate the following skills and experience:
  • Previous experience of managing and successfully delivering a digital learning and education function and/or management of digital products
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogical theories and practices
  • Experience with and passion for customer experience and user centred design principles
  • Hands-on instructional design and development, including strong experience with Articulate 360 suite (Storyline, Rise)
  • Demonstrable experience of managing outsourced team and leading on procurement and contract management
  • Management of a team of instructional designers and developers
  • In depth knowledge of learning methodologies
  • Contract management, service specification and negotiation
  • Client service management - load planning, service level monitoring
  • Experience of virtual learning environments (e.g. Blackboard, Moodle)
  • Proficient in SAM, ADDIE and Agile methodologies
  • Experience working with xAPI/TinCan and SCORM
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Resilient, well-organised and able to work under pressure
