Job Description

Altum Consulting is proud to be representing ClientEarth, an excellent innovative charity that funds legal action worldwide into protecting the environment, in its search for a new Grant Compliance Manager. This role has come about due to rapid growth inthe portfolio of funders and the complexity of donations and will help ensure success in the essential global work that ClientEarth performs. It is an exciting position that will grow as ClientEarth continues to grow, and will have a huge impact on ensuringgovernments and corporations are held to account via environmental law.This role will report directly into the Head of Grants and work within a team of five that focus on administering the donations received from institutional donors and philanthropic organisations. The role will initially focus on developing an understandingof the grants the ClientEarth receive and the various requirements of each donor, before implementing policies that ensure compliance with donor requirements, acknowledge and mitigate any risk and perform the required due diligence. Key responsibilities

  • Work with colleagues through the full cycle of grant contracting to ensure efficient review and processing of funding approval documents and agreement execution.
  • Assist with due diligence, compliance checks, and risk assessments for new donors, including the review of Terms of Reference (TORs) or funder guidelines.
  • Lead and coordinate funder audits and monitoring visits, and support the relevant teams in gathering documentation and preparing for meetings.
  • Perform periodic reviews of internal controls and policies, including with regard to partner compliance, and advise relevant teams on strengthening and improving these as necessary and in line with funder requirements.
  • Periodically review individual grant agreements/contracts, and proactively identify compliance risks throughout the portfolio to advise as necessary the Grants team, programmes, other teams where necessary, and senior management on mitigation.
  • Proactively lead on ensuring a culture of risk management and compliance in relation to grants and build capacity where possible including training and mentoring colleagues.
The ideal candidate:
  • An individual with a passion for combatting climate-change
  • Experience and knowledge of various institutional donors
  • A keen eye for risk
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and mentor colleagues on grant compliance
  • Ideally a strong understanding of finance, especially in relation to programme budgets and reporting
The salary on offer for this role is competitive: £41,620 per annum; however for a particularly strong and experienced candidate this could be open to discussion.
