Unexpected illness, job loss or relationship breakdown can turn a life upside down - it can happen to any of us, and the consequence is often loss of income, loss of housing, and personal crisis. Around 14.4 million people are currently in poverty in the UK, including a shameful 4.5 million children. Its likely to affect the lives of our friends, family and colleagues: poverty is unpredictable, and poverty touches us too. Turn2us is a national charity which focuses on alleviating poverty, helping people access welfare benefits, charitable grants and support services. Turn2us wants to stop people falling into poverty and give practical help to anyone struggling to cope so they can get back on track. This role will provide a pro-active, effective secretariat to the Boards of Turn2us and Elizabeth Finn Homes Ltd, in addition to providing governance development for both Charities. This will involve a broad range of responsibilities and duties to provide efficient support to the Trustees, Directors and the Company Secretary, as well as supporting the CEOs of both charities. The Governance and Board Secretary will lead on issuing papers for Board & Committee meetings, chasing up action points and maintaining an accessible central register of key governance documents. This role will also be responsible for keeping abreast of the latest developments in Governance Legislation and ensuring the organisations systems and practices comply effectively. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a similar Board or Governance role but this does have to be within an NGO or charitable organisation. They will have had experience of minuting high-level meetings and thrive in understanding the latest Governance and Compliance legislation. This person will be an outstanding communicator, highly organised and will have excellent written skills in addition to being diplomatic, tactful and discreet at all times. Well-honed IT Skills and a methodical approach will be essential. A firm belief in the work of the organisation will be vital as will the ability to see the bigger picture and how this role is vital to the smooth running of the organisation. Please apply with your CV only in the first instance, in Microsoft Word format. Following your initial application you may be contacted by Prospectus for an informal discussion, and may be asked to provide further information to assist with the recruitment process.
