Job Description

HEAT is an immersive and innovative ecommerce platform looking for an in-house General Counsel. In your day-to-day, you will work closely with our founders and Financial Controller on key business and legal issues that are mission critical to a startup,including but not limited to:

  • Employee Stock Options
  • Intellectual Property Rights and Trademarks
  • Employment Contracts
  • Insurance Policies
  • Partnership Terms
  • Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy
  • Investor Relations
  • Litigation
  • And more
The ideal candidate is looking to move into an in-house function at a high growth company, and is excited to build out a legal arm. The candidate is comfortable owning key legal matters, but knows when to involve external support or counsel.Core Responsibilities
  • Work with finance team and Carta on employee stock option plan and delivery
  • Edit and review redlines on Employee contracts, partnering with leadership team and relevant hiring managers
  • Support with onboarding new managers
  • Review terms set forth by brand partners
  • Negotiate MSA and Scope of Work with key vendors (e.g. Shipping vendors, Software as a Service) in collaboration with business partners
  • Develop standard operating agreements where relevant in coordination with merchandising and brand partnerships team
  • Stay abreast of key business regulations in the space across key geographies, and ensure company compliance (including but not limited to terms and conditions, privacy policy and other)
  • Manage ad hoc legal needs, and liaise with external counsel as needed
  • Support investor relations and fundraising effort
  • Design and deliver legal training to the business (incl. cybersecurity, confidentiality, etc)
Profile and Experience
  • Qualified legal degree from accredited, top-tier law school
  • Expertise in UK law, with knowledge of EU and US law
  • 2+ years of practice with an established law firm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to businesses
  • Thorough knowledge of legislation regarding customer privacy and data protection (including GDPR)
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced startup environment
  • Knowledge of e-commerce / fashion space is a plus
